The competition will be supervised by a delegate of the World Karate Federation, who will evaluate whether Rijeka could run for the host of the World Senior Championship in 2016. The Croatian Karate Union has a membership of 156 clubs and over 10,000 registered competitors, and as the president of the Croatian Karate Union, Stjepan Čelan said, the area of Rijeka is the best in karate in Croatia, it has extremely good athletes and referees, and therefore deserves to get such a competition.
The City of Rijeka has actively engaged in the preparations for this competition, so Rijeka will be its host for the following four years. We trust that the competition will be well organized, and it will thus confirm that Rijeka is ready to be the host of the World Senior Championship 2016, as Veljko Karabaić, the head of the City Department of Sports and Technical Culture, pointed out.
