"Acting, Media and Culture Studies" in Rijeka

The University of Rijeka has announced a competition to enrol students in the postgraduate specialised study programme "Acting, Media and Culture". Applications will be received by 15 August. During the press conference, professor Snježana Prijić Samardžija, director Lenka Udovički and famous actor Rade Šerbedžija and actress Amanda Plummer talked about the competition.

Lenka Udovički, Amanda Plummer, Rade Šerbedžija and Snježana Prijić Samaržija The postgraduate specialised study is a two-year programme intended for professional development in the field of acting, media and culture in which theory and practice interlock during four semesters. After the first joint year, at the beginning of the second year, students choose either the Acting Module or the Media and Culture Module.
The study programme will include two types of lecturers, those who will hold the courses and lectures and those coming from the film and theatre world, renowned directors and actors who will hold workshops lasting from 1 – 10 days. One of the guests is a famous American actress Amanda Plummer (The Fisher King, Pulp Fiction....etc.), who will cooperate from next autumn within the new study programme. Amanda Plummer, who has won a number of acting awards for many outstanding roles not only in films and TV, but also on the stages of Ontario and Broadway, was present during the presentation of the study programme.
Plummer said it was her honour and privilege to be in Rijeka and work with such artists as Rade Šerbedžija and Lenka Udovički, with whom she had already co-operated on the project Core Sample - Goli otok 1949 to 1956, together with Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave. Plummer said that for her it would be a new experience because she was not a typical lecturer, as she preferred action and interaction, quipping that students should prepare themselves well, being a sensible soul, she was not easy to work with.

Amanda Plummer is one of the famous guests of the new study programme Undergraduate students who have completed a four-year university study programme in accordance with the Bologna scheme, fluent in English, who pass the admission exam, may enrol in the study programme. The study programme is international, so that foreign citizens may enrol as well.

It is envisaged that the study programme will host numerous artists, theoreticians and critics from Croatia and the world, who will take part either as lecturers in the courses or as special guests within specific seminars and workshops. In addition to Amanda Plummer, so far their arrival have announced: Vanessa Redgrave, Liam Neeson and Peter Medak.
