Ivana Lulić, director of the company Centaroprema RE&ZIN, Zlatko Komadina, county president, Željko Jovanović, vice-mayor and the representatives of the Society of the Physically Disabled of the City of Rijeka, the RDA "Porin" and the Croatian Employment Service, signed a cooperation agreement whereby implementing the projects "People with disabilities and the support system model for improving their labour market approach" and "The functioning model of a regional rehabilitation centre".

Neuss celebrated the 20th anniversary of friendly relationships with Rijeka

Several manifestations were organised in Neuss, friendly German city, from 10 to 12 December whereby the City of Neuss celebrated the 20th anniversary of friendly relationships with Rijeka. In addition to a series of manifestations, the square near St. Cornelius' church, named after this saint, is now called Rijeka Square.

On the building of the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Rijeka a memorial-plaque has been unveiled to commemorate the Polish officers, co-founders of the Second Polish Republic Navy, who took their degree from the Naval Academy in Rijeka in the period between 1866 and 1918. The memorial plaque was unveiled by the ambassador of the Republic of Poland together with the Croatian Navy Commander and the Navy Commander of the Republic of Poland.

The International Committee for the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) Evaluation Commission on a visit to Rijeka

The International Committee for the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) sojourned in Rijeka and its surrounding area in order to evaluate the candidature of Rijeka and the neighbouring cities for the organisation of the 2017 edition of the Mediterranean Games. Impressed with what they saw in and around Rijeka, the Commission has found this fifth candidature presented by Rijeka for hosting the games excellent and without any weaknesses.

The 4th edition of the open international chess tournament "Mediterranean 2017"

In the premises of the chess centre "Rijeka" from 13 to 20 November, the chess club "Rijeka" will host the 4th open international chess tournament "Mediterranean 2017", where 118 players so far have registered their participation. In question is the most significant chess tournament in the region as regards the chess game and the prize fund, which through its name supports the candidacy of Rijeka for the organisation of the Mediterranean Games in 2017.

A very interesting lecture dedicated to the destiny of the motor yacht "Galeb" was held at the Rijeka city hall, where the history of the yacht was presented from the period of construction until the present. The lecture was given by Alberto Guglia, machine engineer and university professor from Trieste, who revealed some new facts, unknown to date, documented by photographs of the yacht.

"The Park on Wheels" in front of the primary school "Nikola Tesla"

Within the celebration of the European Mobility Week, the pupils attending the primary school "Nikola Tesla" covered with paintings used metal waste containers. Today, the containers have been placed in square Ivan Klobučarić, in front of the school. The painting and placing of the containers make part of the project initiated by the utility company Čistoća "The Park on Wheels" aimed at greening urban areas and educating children about the preservation of the environment.

The program of European Mobility Week

Again this year, the City of Rijeka will join the action of the European Mobility Week, which offers an opportunity to cities to stimulate citizens to use other ways of movement in the city traffic – walking, cycling or public transportation as an alternative to personal vehicles. The program offers a week rich in events, except this year, the final day of the week, 22nd September, will not be organized as the Day Without Cars, nor will parts of the city be closed to car traffic, but the emphasis will be on the education of the citizens.

The European Bat Night, held every year at the end of August/the beginning of July in more than 30 European countries signatories of the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats, will be organized in Rijeka for the first time this year, on Friday 11th September 2010 from 6 till 8 p.m. at the Natural History Museum in Rijeka. It is organized under the auspices of the City of Rijeka, the Natural History Museum in Rijeka and the Croatian Biospeleological Society, while the members of the student association BIUS will also participate.

At the invitation of the mayor of Qingdao, Mr Xia Geng, in the period from 21 to 27 August the mayor of the City of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel, accompanied by the director of the Tourist Bureau of the City of Rijeka Tourist Board, Petar Škarpa, was on an official visit to China, where he visited the cities of Qingdao, Dalian and Peking. During the visit, the Twinning Agreement, i.e. agreement on sister relationships, between Rijeka and Qingdao was signed, the cities that until then had held the friendship cities' status.

The 53rd edition of the Six-Race Junior Rowing Regatta organised by the rowing clubs "Jadran" from Rijeka and "Glagoljaš" from Omišalj will take place in Bakar Bay on 27 August, with the participation of male and female rowers from Croatia, Italy, Austria and Slovenia who will compete for top title. The Croatian pavilion for the International Architecture Exhibition in the port of Rijeka

On the occasion of the presentation of Croatian authors at the 12th edition of the International Architecture Exhibition – the Venice Biennale – a floating pavilion has been constructed in the Kraljevica shipyard. The pavilion is situated on a barge, made of 32 tonnes of welded wire networks in about 40 layers. The citizens of Rijeka may visit it since the pavilion is moored to the Karolina Riječka Pier from Saturday until its departure for Venice.

Twinning between Rijeka and the Chinese city of Qingdao

Friendship relations between the two port cities, Chinese Qingdao and Rijeka, have been additionally deepened. Namely, from 21 to 27 August, at the request of the mayor of Qingdao, Mr Xia Geng, the mayor of the City of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel accompanied by the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka, Petar Škarpa will be on an official visit to China. During the visit, a twinning contract, i.e. a contract on sister relationships will be signed between Rijeka and Qingdao, the cities that so far have held the friendship cities' status. The contract signing ceremony will be attended by the ambassador of the Republic of China to the People's Republic of China, Ante Simonić.

The University of Rijeka's first Alpine Expedition - ˝Kilimanjaro- Africa 2010˝

In the period between September 14 and October 6 this year, the members of the University of Rijeka are planning to conquer the Mount Kilimanjaro – or, more precisely, its 5898-metre-high Uhuru Peak. This will be the first Croatian expedition of this sort, confirming that the University of Rijeka is, in addition to all it offers its students, also open to other activities – which will affirm its position as an university worth studying at.

Raised the Blue Flag at the beach intended for disabled persons

The Blue Flag has been raised in a solemn ceremony at Kostanj beach, located in the area of Bivio, the first one that a beach in Rijeka has deserved. Kostanj beach, the first beach in Croatia particularly equipped for disabled persons had to meet a number of criteria in order to be awarded the Blue Flag from the quality of the sea, and environmental education and public information, to very strict conditions concerning environmental management and the offer of a high level of security and services.

They arrived in our city on the initiative of Maja Stibilj, a Zagreber who has been living and working in Barcelona for years. Last night at the sports hall of the Zamet Centre the 15th edition of the Under 23 World Nine-Pin Bowling Championship was opened in which 241 male and female bowlers from 17 countries will compete. The Zamet Centre hosted already on Saturday male bowlers who tested their mettle in individual cups - for juniors, boys and girls under the age of 18 and for cadets - boys and girls under the age of 14.

"The Walker", a new sculpture on Korzo

From 21 to 29 May in the prefabricated bowling alley placed within the sports hall of the Zamet Centre, the Under 23 World Nine-Pin Bowling Championship (male and female) will be held, as well as two world junior individual cups - for juniors, boys and girls under the age of 18 and for cadets - boys and girls under the age of 14. In about 10 days Rijeka will host 31 bowling national teams and several hundred participants.

The delegates and guests were welcomed by the host and president of Chess Club Rijeka Damir Vrhovnik, while the deputy mayor of the City of Rijeka Željko Jovanović, pointed out that the rhythm of the city having a long and rich chess tradition those days was marked by chess and the European Championship.

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has supported Rijeka in its endeavour to be assigned the organisation of the Mediterranean Games in 2017. The 27th edition of the International Carnival Procession, the grand finale of the Rijeka Carnival which this year was held on the St Valentine's Day included 8,000 costumed participants divided into 94 groups with 73 allegoric floats. Thus the downtown streets were full of fantasy mixed with love, showing once again that in Rijeka the carnival time is "the fifth season "!

Their number every year clearly shows what we may expect of it in the future. In this year's edition of the carnival procession 76 carnival groups took part with 5.208 children whose fanciful ideas chased away threatening rain clouds.

The costumed procession of the 19th consecutive masked rally Pariz – Bakar with exactly 90 vehicles, after gathering near Pariz in Rijeka, proceeded down toward the Rijeka promenade Korzo, to continue the drive afterwards towards Kostrena and Bakar. The imaginative octane drivers were tested there for their driving abilities, and all the prized participants were invited to take part in the already traditional Ball of Octane. The masked rally is a unique manifestation of this kind in the world owing to which the Rijeka Carnival has become widely famous.

The citizens of Rijeka and their guests once again had an opportunity to enjoy the skills of some twenty top snowboarders from about ten countries. This snow competition, for which on Korzo a particular polygon was constructed, is unique for its platform just 100 meters distant from the sea.
