A delegation of the Provident Fund Management Centre from Shanghai visited Rijeka with the goal of getting acquainted with the model of subsidised residential construction. On behalf of the City of Rijeka the delegation was received by Vladimir Benac, Head of the Subsidised Housing Agency of the City of Rijeka. The topics of the conversation included an introduction to the subsidised residential construction, for buyers and socially disadvantaged citizens, a presentation of the guarantees offered by the state and the applied credit models

The 17th edition of the Puppet Theatre Revue

On the occasion of the International Week of the Deaf marked from 24 to 30 September, the praiseworthy cooperation between the Association of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired People of the Primorje and Gorski Kotar County and the City of Rijeka continues through the city web site, where in addition to news, video material will be available as well, which, using the sign language for the deaf and hearing impaired people, explains the content of the news. In the same way, in the future, other contents available on the city web site will be adjusted to the deaf and hearing impaired people.

Touring exhibition - a year after the earthquake and tsunami in eastern Japan

The atrium of the Croatian Cultural Centre at Sušak is hosting an exhibition "Thank you Croatia". The organiser of the exhibition is the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Croatia, which would like to express its appreciation for all the assistance and support provided to the people of Japan after the earthquake and tsunami that struck the country in March 2011. The photos show the situation immediately after the earthquake and tsunami and the same locations a year later with visible progress toward reconstruction. This touring exhibition will be staged in all the countries around the world in which Japanese embassies are set up. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency, Masaru Tsuji.

At the international “Quirinus Cup” which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary, held in Neuss, our sister city, the women's handball team “Zamet” won first place in the category C-young (born in 97/98/99 ), beating the club ”HSG Blomberg-Lippe” 17:16 in overtime final. The young sportsmen and sportswomen from Rijeka, attending elementary school “Zamet” within the cooperation fostered for many years between ES “Zamet” and Realschule Holzheim, Neuss in addition to mutual visits and exchange of pupils, have also traditionally participated in the “Quirinus Cup” in Neuss.

The jury composed of: Snježana Banović, director from Zagreb, Dušanka Stojanović Glid, drama actress from Belgrade and Damir Orlić, drama actor from Rijeka, awarded the “Veljko Maričić” prize for the best performance on the whole to the play „My Son Just Walks a Little Slow “ produced by the theatre “Zagrebačko kazalište mladih”.

Children competed in basketball shooting, goal shooting, polygon sports, bowling pin shooting, relay racing and in hockey goal shooting with a hockey stick.

According to the most recent results of LOTUS 2011/2012 research into the transparency of operation and functioning of local and regional self-government units, Rijeka has defended and kept the title as the most transparent city in Croatia.

Rijeka to host the International Qualification Judo Tournament

Over the next four years the City of Rijeka will host the 5th tournament of the series of the International Qualification Judo Tournaments that will be held every September from 2013 to 2016. The Contract concerning the organisation of the fifth IJF Grand Prix was signed in the reception room of the City of Rijeka by the president of the Croatian Judo Federation Sanda Čorak and Marius L.Vizer, president of the International Judo Federation. The tournament will be held at the Zamet Centre in Rijeka.

Opening of the “Pier Shear” project

Saturday, 21 April 2012, six sheep replaced their natural environment in the area surrounding Rijeka with a new home on the Rijeka Pier to help (re)imagining the Pier and what it could be. In this, they are assisted by seven artists and artisans who will exhibit their woollen creations on the Pier, physically transforming it. |

The first of the 33 cruise ships that this year will approach the territory of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County, sailed in the local waters of the port of Rijeka on Thursday morning, 19 April 2012. The cruise liner “Oriana” owned by the passenger-shipping company “P&O Cruises" arrived in Rijeka with 1,761 passengers and 710 crew members. She sailed out in the afternoon, after the passengers have returned from an excursion and sightseeing in the city.

Signed the design and construction contract for the container terminal on the waterfront “Riva Zagreb” with a consortium of Italian companies and “Osijek Koteks”

The design and construction contract has been signed at the Port of Rijeka Authority with a consortium of Italian companies and “Osijek Koteks” for the container terminal on the waterfront “Riva Zagreb”. The contract is worth EUR 70 million, and the first phase of the new container terminal on the Zagreb Pier should be completed by 2017.

The mayor of the City of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel and Vidoje Vujić, acting president of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County held a working meeting with the new Austrian Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Andrea Ikić Böhm, who is on her first official visit to Rijeka. During the meeting, the hosts and the high guest discussed the possibilities for improving the present cooperation in all fields.

Unveiled the memorial plaque in honour of the Macedonian enlightener, poet and linguist Andreja Petkovič

On the front side of the building of the Commercial Court, on the corner where Trpimir street and Zadar street cross, a memorial plaque has been placed in honour of the Macedonian enlightener, poet and linguist Andreja Petkovič, born in the Macedonian city of Veles, who from 1873 to 1892 carried out the duty of the Imperial Russian Consul in Rijeka. During some twenty years of his life in Rijeka, Petković took part in the public and social life, and in addition to his rich diplomatic activity, he also provided donations to Rijeka citizens.

Children are building bridges of friendship between Croatia and Macedonia

The representatives of the City of Rijeka held a reception for a delegation of the Children’s Embassy for all children with its head office in Prilep, Macedonia. During the reception, aimed at further strengthening of friendly relationships between Croatia and Macedonia, a visit by young Macedonians to Rijeka and Croatia was discussed, as well as an initiative to open a Children’s Consulate General in Rijeka.

During the international Get Online Week, the Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka organises workshops allowing citizens to get free computer education, learn how to use the Internet and Facebook, in order to join the Rijeka Facebook group – Explore your City, Love your City. Through the manifestation Get Online Week in the European year of healthy ageing and intergenerational solidarity, citizens are given support to join e-clubs and actively take part in the preservation of the cultural and industrial heritage of the city they live in.

Small digital centres at clubs for elderly people

Digital centres were presented at the “Krimeja” club for pensioners and elderly people, open within the EGOV4U project in four more clubs in Rijeka gathering elderly people. Small digital centres, established in order to enable elderly people to gain basic IT skills in a pleasant and informal atmosphere, were presented within the EU campaigns e-Skills Week and Get Online Week.

Flemish and Rijeka businessmen about possibilities for business co-operation

A business gathering was held at the City of Rijeka, organised by the export promotion agency FITA of the Flemish Ministry of Public Works, in which the representatives of Flemish and Rijeka companies took part whose activities include transport and logistics, ecology and infrastructure. Possibilities of their business cooperation were presented with an emphasis on the fact that Croatia will soon join the EU and will be able to use its structural funds.

The 19th edition of the International Small Scene Theatre Festival

The 19th edition of the International Small Scene Theatre Festival will take place from 3 to 9 May at the Croatian Cultural Centre at Sušak and at the “Kortil” gallery. Eight Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian, Polish and Lithuanian theatrical plays linked by the common topic addressing dysfunctional families, under the pressure of political and social imperatives, will be presented to the Rijeka audience.

Spectacular grand finale of the Rijeka Carnival

The spectacular grand finale of the 29th edition of the Rijeka carnival burst in an explosion of numerous colours, figures, funny comments on some current happenings, fanciful creations at Korzo, all produced by 97 carnival groups with about 8,500 participants who plan, make costumes and build allegorical floats throughout the year, and this year there were as many as 73 allegorical floats. About 70,000 spectators watched the carnival parade, among whom also guests from abroad. Good atmosphere was all around which even bad weather during the second half of the carnival parade could not spoil.

Signed an agreement on investment in the football club HNK "Rijeka"

Green Cleanup - One Day for a Clean Environment

Within the global movement - Let's do it! World Cleanup 2012 - “Green Cleanup – One Day for a Clean Environment!” campaign is being implemented in Croatia which goal is to gather the largest number of volunteers ever in a cleanup initiative on 21 April. The initiative will be carried out under the auspices of association Žmergo from Opatija, and with its letter of support, the City of Rijeka was among the first cities to have joined the action, with a simple message: everyone can do something for a cleaner and healthier environment – together we can do anything!

Certificates awarded to course takers who have completed free IT courses

Free IT training is organised for those citizen categories whose access to new skills tied to information technology is limited.
