Rijeka Korzo – Centre of European Rally
Rijeka, 18 May 2012 From 24 to 26 May 2012 Rijeka will host one of the 12 most prestigious rally races included in the European Rally Championship - EP Croatia Rally 2012. With its start and finish in Rijeka, this three-day racing takes place on the roads of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County and the Istria County. The host and organisers of the race are the Croatian Car and Carting Federation and Car Club „M.R.C. Sport" from Rijeka.

Csepel and Rijeka, 15 years of friendship and co-operation
Rijeka, 18 May 2012 A delegation composed of representatives from Csepel, the 21st independent district of Budapest, Hungary, with which Rijeka has fostered friendly cooperation ever since 1997, sojourns in Rijeka. The delegation from Csepel is led by vice mayor Attila Ábeli, and it also includes the members of “Puszta Band”, musical band which will take part in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the “Baross” Hungarian cultural association in Rijeka.

2012 Edition of the Rijeka Summer Nights marked by co-productions
Rijeka, 17 May 2012 This year’s edition, ninth in a row, of the Rijeka Summer Nights Festival will take place from 19 June to 24 July 2012. The festival will be inaugurated by “Puja!”, a group made up of Spanish and Argentine performers who will perform „Do Do Land", acrobatic air ballet, accompanied by live music, while the festival closure ceremony, this year will be held at a new scenic spot – on the roof terrace of the Tower Centre, where in addition to a dance programme, festival prizes will be awarded.

Elderly people in Rijeka have got their website
Rijeka, 11 May 2012 The website adjusted to third agers was presented in the premises of the Rijeka City Administration, aimed at improving the social inclusion of elderly people in Rijeka. This website, which forms part of the Healthy Aging Strategy, implemented with the objective to increase the level of third agers’ social integration, was realised with assistance of the representatives of the Kantrida Nursing Home and the Central Association of Rijeka pensioners.

Closed the 19th edition of the Small Scene Theatre Festival: The best play is “My Son Just Walks a Little Slow”
Rijeka, 10 May 2012 The Small Scene Theatre Festival was closed last night with the play „The Lower Depths“ produced by the City Theatre of Vilnius, directed by Oskaras Korsunovas. The jury composed of: Snježana Banović, director from Zagreb, Dušanka Stojanović Glid, drama actress from Belgrade and Damir Orlić, drama actor from Rijeka, awarded the “Veljko Maričić” prize for the best performance on the whole to the play „My Son Just Walks a Little Slow “ produced by the theatre “Zagrebačko kazalište mladih”.

Held the 4th edition of the Rijeka sports games for children with developmental disabilities
Rijeka, 7 May 2012 Within the “Rijeka - Healthy City” project, at the Youth Sports Hall at Trsat, the 4th edition of the sports games for children with developmental disabilities was held. Children competed in basketball shooting, goal shooting, polygon sports, bowling pin shooting, relay racing and in hockey goal shooting with a hockey stick.

The 16th International Meeting – Oldtimer Car Rally Rijeka 2012
Rijeka, 4 May 2012 The 16th International Meeting – Oldtimer Car Rally, organised by the Oldtimer Club “Rijeka” and the City of Rijeka will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 5 and 6 May 2012. The race will begin on Korzo at 11 a.m. It is expected that approximately 50 cars with about 100 participants from Croatia and abroad (Slovenia, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany) will take part in the 16th edition of the Oldtimer Car Rally.

Rijeka to host the International Qualification Judo Tournament
Rijeka, 20 April 2012 Over the next four years the City of Rijeka will host the 5th tournament of the series of the International Qualification Judo Tournaments that will be held every September from 2013 to 2016. The Contract concerning the organisation of the fifth IJF Grand Prix was signed in the reception room of the City of Rijeka by the president of the Croatian Judo Federation Sanda Čorak and Marius L.Vizer, president of the International Judo Federation. The tournament will be held at the Zamet Centre in Rijeka.

Opening of the “Pier Shear” project
Rijeka, 23 April 2012 Saturday, 21 April 2012, six sheep replaced their natural environment in the area surrounding Rijeka with a new home on the Rijeka Pier to help (re)imagining the Pier and what it could be. In this, they are assisted by seven artists and artisans who will exhibit their woollen creations on the Pier, physically transforming it.

Rijeka, 19 April 2012 The first of the 33 cruise ships that this year will approach the territory of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County, sailed in the local waters of the port of Rijeka on Thursday morning, 19 April 2012. The cruise liner “Oriana” owned by the passenger-shipping company “P&O Cruises" arrived in Rijeka with 1,761 passengers and 710 crew members. She sailed out in the afternoon, after the passengers have returned from an excursion and sightseeing in the city.

Signed the design and construction contract for the container terminal on the waterfront “Riva Zagreb” with a consortium of Italian companies and “Osijek Koteks”
Rijeka, 17 April 2012 The design and construction contract has been signed at the Port of Rijeka Authority with a consortium of Italian companies and “Osijek Koteks” for the container terminal on the waterfront “Riva Zagreb”. The contract is worth EUR 70 million, and the first phase of the new container terminal on the Zagreb Pier should be completed by 2017.

Unveiled the memorial plaque in honour of the Macedonian enlightener, poet and linguist Andreja Petkovič
Rijeka, 11 April 2012 On the front side of the building of the Commercial Court, on the corner where Trpimir street and Zadar street cross, a memorial plaque has been placed in honour of the Macedonian enlightener, poet and linguist Andreja Petkovič, born in the Macedonian city of Veles, who from 1873 to 1892 carried out the duty of the Imperial Russian Consul in Rijeka. During some twenty years of his life in Rijeka, Petković took part in the public and social life, and in addition to his rich diplomatic activity, he also provided donations to Rijeka citizens.

Children are building bridges of friendship between Croatia and Macedonia
Rijeka, 2 April 2012 The representatives of the City of Rijeka held a reception for a delegation of the Children’s Embassy for all children with its head office in Prilep, Macedonia. During the reception, aimed at further strengthening of friendly relationships between Croatia and Macedonia, a visit by young Macedonians to Rijeka and Croatia was discussed, as well as an initiative to open a Children’s Consulate General in Rijeka.

Free education courses aimed at active inclusion in the activity of the e-club operating within the Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka

Small digital centres at clubs for elderly people
Rijeka, 26 March 2012 Digital centres were presented at the “Krimeja” club for pensioners and elderly people, open within the EGOV4U project in four more clubs in Rijeka gathering elderly people. Small digital centres, established in order to enable elderly people to gain basic IT skills in a pleasant and informal atmosphere, were presented within the EU campaigns e-Skills Week and Get Online Week.

Flemish and Rijeka businessmen about possibilities for business co-operation

The 19th edition of the International Small Scene Theatre Festival
Rijeka, 16 March 2012 The 19th edition of the International Small Scene Theatre Festival will take place from 3 to 9 May at the Croatian Cultural Centre at Sušak and at the “Kortil” gallery. Eight Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian, Polish and Lithuanian theatrical plays linked by the common topic addressing dysfunctional families, under the pressure of political and social imperatives, will be presented to the Rijeka audience.

Spectacular grand finale of the Rijeka Carnival
Rijeka, 19 February 2012 The spectacular grand finale of the 29th edition of the Rijeka carnival burst in an explosion of numerous colours, figures, funny comments on some current happenings, fanciful creations at Korzo, all produced by 97 carnival groups with about 8,500 participants who plan, make costumes and build allegorical floats throughout the year, and this year there were as many as 73 allegorical floats. About 70,000 spectators watched the carnival parade, among whom also guests from abroad. Good atmosphere was all around which even bad weather during the second half of the carnival parade could not spoil.

Green Cleanup - One Day for a Clean Environment
Rijeka, 9 February 2012 Within the global movement - Let's do it! World Cleanup 2012 - “Green Cleanup – One Day for a Clean Environment!” campaign is being implemented in Croatia which goal is to gather the largest number of volunteers ever in a cleanup initiative on 21 April. The initiative will be carried out under the auspices of association Žmergo from Opatija, and with its letter of support, the City of Rijeka was among the first cities to have joined the action, with a simple message: everyone can do something for a cleaner and healthier environment – together we can do anything!

Certificates awarded to course takers who have completed free IT courses
Rijeka, 27 January 2012 Due to a large number of course takers, namely more than 120 of them, two certificate awarding ceremonies were held, relating to basic and advanced free courses organised by the City of Rijeka. Free IT training is organised for those citizen categories whose access to new skills tied to information technology is limited.
