First tourist Double-decker bus in Croatia

RIJEKA - On 8 June 2007 the touRIst bus made its first steps and welcomed the first visitors on its Opatija-Rijeka route, telling them during their trip interesting stories about the past and present of our cities. This idea has come to life, most of all, thanks to the efforts of the City of Rijeka and the Rijeka Tourist Board in the desire to enhance what is on offer to tourists so that our guests, and also local inhabitants, can experience our cities in a totally new way.

Double decker.jpg Although old metropolises like London, Barcelona or Valencia have already had this service for many years, our bus is different in many ways. Most especially because it is the only - work of art. Thanks to the great artist Vojo Radoicic, the bus simply through its exterior can tell a story about the attractive locations of Rijeka and Opatija in a unique and unrepeatable way. Additionally, tourists can listen to interesting tales about the cities' past and present but also future in 10 languages: Croatian, Italian, German, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Hungarian, Chinese and Japanese. And children can listen to stories written especially for them in Croatian, Italian, German, English, French and Russian.

TouRIst bus stops are located in Opatija's Slatina, in Rijeka in front of the Croatian Ivan pi Zajc National Theatre and on Jadranski Square and also in Trsat in front of the Youth Sports Hall. Enjoy a three-hour sightseeing trip of Rijeka and Opatija. The journey includes the ride on an open-top bus, a walk around Trsat and entry into Trsat Castle, half an hour of independent walking around the centre of Rijeka (with a leaflet) and sightseeing around Opatija with a professional guide who speaks English. The bus departs three times a day and the trip lasts three hours. Tickets can be bought at the Tourist Information Centres in Rijeka and Opatija, in many Opatija and Rijeka hotels and tourist agencies, and even from the guide at the bus door. The bus has 79 seats of which 2 are reserved for disabled people. The ticket price is 70 kuna, children from 4 to 12 enjoy a 50% discount, while those younger than 3 can ride- for free! of Souvenirs are not the only things that tourists will take away with them after visiting Rijeka and Opatija. After a journey in the touRIst bus they will also take away a fun, unique and completely original experience of our cities and, we believe, thanks to this, will recommend our cities as attractive and interesting tourist destinations.
