Rijeka – Healthy City
The Healthy Cities networks are established in all six regions of the World Health Organisation, and therefore also in the European Region. Over 1200 cities and towns from more than 30 countries in the WHO European Region are linked through national, regional, and other networks, while more advanced cities also through the WHO Healthy Cities Network. The general objective of this global movement is to support and commit local governments to be active in health development.

The Annual WHO European Healthy Cities Network Conference
Rijeka, 24 June 2009 A delegation of the City of Rijeka, of the project team Rijeka – Healthy City, attended the first WHO Healthy Cities Network Annual Business and Technical Conference held in the 5th phase titled: "Striving for Health and Health Equity in all local policies" in Portugal.

The City of Rijeka in the 5th phase of the European Healthy Cities Network
Rijeka, 17 June 2009 The World Health Organisation has confirmed the admission of the City of Rijeka to the 5th phase of the European Healthy Cities Network. The conditions for admission to the 5th phase are met by only 13 more European cities (Belfast, Bursa, Cankaya, Draesden, Helsingborg, Kadikoy, Liverpool, Manchester, Rennes, Seixal, Stoke on Trent, Turku and Udine), and so far Rijeka has been the only city from the Republic of Croatia in the network of the cities chosen to join the 5th phase.

European Healthy Cities Network Business Meeting in Rijeka
Rijeka, 13 December 2007 The City of Rijeka hosted a business meeting of the European Healthy Cities Network, one of the World Health Organisation projects, on 10th and 11th December 2007. There were 30 representatives from 14 European cities participating at the meeting. These cities are intensively addressing the theme of healthy aging, and it was the integration of healthy aging and healthy urban planning that was the main topic of the meeting.
