The publication "Rijeka, the city where the third age swims upstream /Healthy Ageing Strategy in Rijeka 2009 - 2013", is a result of more intensive dedication on the part of the City of Rijeka to the issue of healthy ageing, in view of the current demographic situation and the city's demographic prospects, as well as growing and more demanding necessities of the elderly population.

Mental Health of Rijeka's citizens
Not only do the problems that relate to mental health strongly affect the diseased persons, but they also affect their families and the society on the whole. For this reason, the prevention of mental disorders and promotion of mental health is among the permanent goals of the World Health Organisation and other organisations dealing with health, including the City of Rijeka as well. The publication "Mental Health of Rijeka's Citizens" was created in order to promote interest in the topic of mental health and motivate experts from various professions to realise projects and programmes aimed at preventing mental disorders and promoting mental health of Rijeka's citizens.

Health behaviour in Rijeka: How Healthy is it?
It is our wish to alter the pattern of behaviour which can harm health as well as to encourage behaviour which preserves and promotes health. With this goal in mind, we have initiated and supported research on behaviour linked to health with the citizens of Rijeka. The research was worked out and implemented by scientists from the Department of Psychology at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Rijeka, in cooperation with experts from the City Deptartment of Health & Social Welfare.

50+ in Rijeka/Healthy Ageing Profile
The City of Rijeka participates in the Phase IV of the World Health Organisation's project European Healthy Cities Network (2003 – 2008) whose main priority is healthy ageing. One of the City of Rijeka's obligations in this project was making a profile of the elderly which will be used as a basis for the healthy ageing action plan.
