The expedition sojourned in Africa in the period from 14 September to 6 October 2010, with the goal of conquering Uhuru Peak. All the expedition members reached the 5895 m high peak at around 9 a.m. local time, on 20 September after 5 days of ascending. During its stay in Africa, the expedition also visited the main national parks of Tanzania and Kenya, a Masai settlement and a refugee camp in Kenya, where they handed over Croatian packages of humanitarian aid. Moreover, they visited Zanzibar Island situated in the Indian Ocean, while on their way back they visited Istanbul.
As emphasised by the rector of the University of Rijeka, Pero Lučin, the university does not include only teaching, owing to this project, the expedition has much contributed to the affirmation of the University of Rijeka on the global map of modern universities, open to new ideas.
The City of Rijeka also recognised the importance of this expedition so that it financially supported its realisation. "It gave us much pleasure to support this action and we expect that the expedition members would continue it with a new enterprise," said Veljko Karabaić, head of the City Department of sports.
During the presentation of the impressions of the first alpine expedition of the University of Rijeka we were informed that the video and photo materials realised during the expedition were in the final phase of montage, and the entire material would be finished by the end of the week, after which it would be presented to the public.
