The summer school, which covers various areas of wireless sensor networks via M2M (mobile to mobile) up to the concept of "Internet of Things" (one of the ten best technologies that will significantly influence our future lives and industrial products), was inaugurated by Vedran Mornar, president of the Croatian MIPRO Association, as a co-organiser of the school.
20 renowned lecturers take part in the work of the summer school and about 60 participants, young scientists and students from across the world.
The director of the Business Academy Rijeka, Gordana Nikolić pointed out her satisfaction because Rijeka is playing host to the summer school, which during its brief existence, has become a necessary event for all young scientists and researchers from various faculties and from the business world.
"Because of this reason, it is important to mention that the topics that the Summer School will cover are not just in the theoretical educational domain, but they also have practical applications. By hosting international experts and scientists in our city we also contribute to a vision of Rijeka's leaders who want our city to steer toward a knowledge and research based future where a synergy between openness to progressive ideas, international interaction and communication are all fostered. I am convinced that the city of Rijeka will become a gathering place for scientists from all over Europe and the world. That's why I believe that hosting this Summer School is only the beginning of what will become a trend," said Nikolić.
According to Vlado Kon, deputy head of the City of Rijeka IT Institute, no wonder that Rijeka is the first Croatian city that hosts this summer school, since Rijeka is Croatia's leading city in the application of IT technology. Thus the project "Rijeka-Intelligent City" allows that various services are provided electronically, which for citizens has significantly improved the quality of living.
The co-organisers of the school are: MIPRO, the Polytechnic of Rijeka and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka, while its organisation is supported by the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka and the utility company "Autotrolej".
Moreover, the summer school is supported by three EU projects within the 7th framework programme for research (FP7): The SENSEI, PROSENSE and HOBNET projects. Thus, within this year's summer school, Sunday, 29 August a workshop of the PROSENSE project will be held at the Faculty of Engineering Rijeka, while at the hotel Adriatic Opatija from 1 to 3 September the closing conference of the SENSEI project will take place.
