Out of 15 pensioners’ clubs that exist in Rijeka, nine clubs operate within the association “Matica umirovljenika”, while six within the Kantrida Nursing Home. The initiative for establishing the clubs has proved to be very good, since the clubs provide social contacts, educational workshops and entertainment programmes. Every club is equipped with computers, and the measure in which this equipment will be used will depend on its members.
The amount of HRK 640,000.00 is provided annually from the budget of the City of Rijeka to cover the material costs and the costs relating to permanently employed staff of these 15 clubs that gather about 3,000 members.
The premises of the Club for elderly people “Pehlin” is situated at the address Minakovo 30. The premises are owned by the City of Rijeka and are ceded to the Club for utilisation. New tables, PC-s and chess sets have been bought. Club members take part in IT courses, they have at their disposal a free internet link, they realise excellent cooperation with students of German and English language, attending foreign language courses free of charge, and they can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of juice which are available at the purchase price.
The club will be open every day from Monday to Friday, and working hours will in the future also be subject to changes, depending on the users’ needs.
Presently 14 clubs for pensioners and elderly people operate in Rijeka. Due to huge interest expressed by senior fellow citizens in the activities of the clubs, the City Department of Health and Social Welfare tries to find new adequate premises for their activity.
The club aims to organise as many interesting programmes and lectures as possible to enable its users to spend their free time in the most quality manner.
In addition to lectures, elderly people will be able to socialise in the premises of the Club, they will be able to play social games, watch TV, or use a PC.
The IT Institute of the City of Rijeka has donated a PC with all the belonging equipment and installed programmes owing to the project EGOV4U (E-Government for you).
Two more clubs are scheduled to be opened in the area of Turnić and Centre-Sušak.
