The Lifelong Learning Week in 2011 is organised by the Agency for Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and supported by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. It is implemented from 8 to 15 September under the slogan "And how to learn?". The Lifelong Learning Week is aimed at enhancing the awareness of the importance of learning and motivating citizens to take part in education to a largest possible degree, with a particular emphasis on persons who for any reason are excluded from this process.
This year the prize "The Dandelion of Knowledge" has been introduced for achievements in adult education, which main goal is to initiate and motivate all the citizens of the Republic of Croatia to join certain types of education and training, by underlining and promoting life examples of adult course takers.
Co-ordination and the media campaign are performed by the Agency, with assistance from regional coordinators who have independently chosen topics and activities according to their fields of activity. All the programmes that are held within the celebration of the Lifelong Learning Week are published on the web site www.cjelozivotno-ucenje.hr.
The Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka organises an open day, at 18:00 h on 12 September 2011, for pupils and parents, in the course of which the centre will present free programmes that the pupils can attend during the school year, and all the associations – partners will join in and will also present their programmes and will call them to take part.
Tuesday, 13 September in co-operation with the City of Rijeka, the IT Institute will present the project EGOV4U intended to socially disadvantaged categories, i.e. third agers, socially vulnerable people, people with disabilities etc., as explained by the head of the Internet Support Service, Tatjana Perše, all the interested people will get explanation how education and digital inclusion can help people to become socially included and how they can improve the quality of their lives. It is a project in which the City of Rijeka takes part together with several European cities. The project title is E-government for you and is financed by the EU. The goals of the project are to enable that e-services are available for socially disadvantaged citizens, remove the barriers impeding access to the internet and e-services and put information technology into the homes and communities of the socially disadvantaged categories of citizens.
Furthermore, films will be presented taken during excursions organised by the CTC with former course takers of the Rijeka Intelligent City project, who after digital inclusion have become active members of the local community, volunteers who develop it with their work and ideas.
The third day, Wednesday 14 September 2011, the project "We know how" financed from EU funds will be promoted. Donators, partners, lecturer and the activity programme will be presented to the participants who have joined the project and at the end of the ceremony agreements will be signed with the participants, which is a precondition for the beginning of education. The CTC Rijeka has joined the regional promotion of the lifelong learning week organised by the Open University as a regional co-ordinator and on 9 September 2011 it will take part in the education fair to be held at the Croatian employment service, Regional service Rijeka. This year, the CTC has prepared for visitors of the open days vouchers for attending courses free of charge according to one's own choice (PC basics, the Internet and e-mail, skype, Picasa web album).
