The representatives of the national teams were once again given a warm welcome to Rijeka by the mayor of the City of Rijeka Obersnel who reminded that that was the fourth boules championship organised in Rijeka, a city with a long tradition in that sport. He expressed his hope that a boules competition would be again organised in Rijeka in the future.
In addition to the mayor, the representatives of the national teams were also received by deputy mayor Miroslav Matešić, the head of the City Departments of Sports and Technical Culture Veljko Karabaić, the reception was also attended by the president of the Croatian Boules Federation, Šime Bulić and the Rijeka Boules Federation Ivan Festini.
14 national teams take part in the World Boules Championship from: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, France, Italy, Monaco, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey, Serbia and Croatia.
Christian Lacoste, FIB president thanked the City of Rijeka, as an organiser. Although the competition will take place until Saturday, in his opinion, at this point it is already visible that this championship is exceptionally well organised. One of the reasons for this is certainly in the fact that playing boules has taken deep roots in the tradition of this city and the region, where more than 90 boules clubs are active.
