Reception for the U.S. Ambassador

The mayor of the City of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel with his associates has given a reception in honour of the U.S. Ambassador James Foley, who arrived in his first, two-day official visit to Rijeka in order to get acquainted with the city and the Primorje Gorski Kotar County. The main topic of the meeting was the improvement of economic co-operation with the U.S.A.

Mayor Obersnel and U.S. Ambassador James Foley Ambassador Foley pointed out that during the meeting the current situation in Rijeka and the possibilities of developing the economy, as well as investment possibilities for American investors in Rijeka and the Primorje Gorski Kotar County, a region with excellent geostrategic position and natural resources, had been discussed.

Mayor Obersnel expressed his satisfaction with the talks with the U.S. Ambassador. The mayor presented to the U.S. Ambassador investment possibilities from the port of Rijeka and the University to the logistic zone Miklavlje. The mayor also informed the Ambassador about the problems tied to unemployment and the shipbuilding industry.

The U.S. Ambassador has arrived accompanied by his wife, by Michael Sears, Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs and Zoran Tomić from the Political and Economic Office. Although this has been his first official visit to Rijeka since his appointment as ambassador in September 2009, he sojourned in our city in February as a guest of the Rijeka International Carnival.

Further to the mayor, the reception was also attended by the City Council president, Dorotea-Pešić Bukovac and the vice-mayor Miroslav Matešić.
