Reception in honour of the Ambassador of Bangladesh

Dorotea Pešić Bukovac, president of the City of Rijeka Council and deputy mayor Miroslav Matešić gave the first official reception at the Lounge of the City of Rijeka in honour of the Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Rahman Mizanur.

His Excellency Rahman Mizanur, Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr Mizanur joined the meeting at the invitation of the president of the Republic of Croatia, organised on the Brionian Islands last weekend, while he has dedicated this day to visit Rijeka.

Further to his family members, Ambassador Mizanur is accompanied by the General Consul of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in Zagreb, Ante Sorić.

 

Reception in honour of the Ambassador of Bangladesh Dorotea Pešić Bukovac, president of the City of Rijeka Council introduced the ambassador to the structure and manner of work of the City Council, emphasising on that occasion significant importance dedicated by the City of Rijeka to the share in the Council of representatives of national minorities, as well as in its boards and the City administration.
Pešić Bukovac pointed out a significant share of women in the City Council as a direct result of the encouragement of political parties to a higher share of women in the social and political life of the city.
Mentioning the city of Rijeka as a university and port city that also promotes urban tourism Pešić Bukovac pointed out the advantages that our city is able to offer, first of all in the field of the economy as a potential port for shipping goods from Bangladesh.
Deputy mayor Miroslav Matešić also talked about the characteristics of possible cooperation utilising the port of Rijeka, stressing the fact that once the port of Rijeka has been modernised and extended it will be able to receive even the largest ships, thus becoming interesting to all shipping companies.

A tie as a suitable gift Expressing his words of thanks for the hospitality, Ambassador Mizanur, whose office is located in the Netherlands, said that he had taken the opportunity to visit Croatia to get acquainted with the possibilities that Rijeka could offer. „In times of globalisation, it is important to develop good relationships with all countries and create conditions for exchanging goods and improving economic cooperation, and this matter is of utmost importance to Croatia as a future member of the European Union“, said Mizanur.
The commercial exchange between Bangladesh and Croatia last year reached around U.S.A. 15 million, and it mainly related to the import of jute and textiles. Ambassador Mizanur pointed out that as many as seven million Bangladeshi citizens work abroad, among other countries, also in many EU countries. When Croatia is admitted to the EU, part of labour force will look for better conditions in EU member states and this will be an occasion to establish closer co-operation between the two countries, because Bangladeshi people are excellent workers who could fill in vacant posts for a fixed term“, said the Ambassador.
As an aspect of better mutual introduction, Ambassador Mizanur announced an exhibition by authors from Bangladesh that apart from Zagreb could be organised in Rijeka as well.
