Reception in honour of the Malaysian Ambassador

The president of the Rijeka City Council, Dorotea Pešić Bukovac and deputy mayor Željko Jovanović hosted a reception in honour of the Malaysian Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin who is on her first official visit to Rijeka. The ambassador is accompanied by her husband Shaharudin Abd Ghani and Jasmin Džaferović, marketing officer.

Malaysian Ambassador Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin and her husband Shaharudin Abd Ghani Ambassador Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin has been carrying out this duty since 23 January 2008. Within her first official visit she took the opportunity to meet with the representatives of the City of Rijeka and the Primorje Gorski-Kotar County, and visit the Port of Rijeka Authority and the Port of Rijeka.
Deputy mayor Željko Jovanović presented the economic opportunities that a wider Rijeka territory can offer to Malaysian businessmen, pointing out the importance of the port of Rijeka as the shortest connection between ports in South-Asia and European traffic routes.
During the reception, in addition to possibilities to utilise the port of Rijeka for transporting Malaysian products, in particular Proton cars, the hosts and the high guests discussed the establishment of co-operation at university level. Up to now, the Malaysian Government has awarded about seventy grants, for a period from one week to one month for a number of officers, staff employed with ministries, various institutions and universities, and several students from Croatia, owing to their scholarships, attend Malaysian universities.
Reception in honour of the Malaysian AmbassadorAccording to Ambassador Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin, the exchange of delegations is the best way to get acquainted with co-operation opportunities at different levels, therefore, announcing a possibility that such a delegation visits Croatia, she proposed Rijeka as a city included in their visit.
The president of the Rijeka City Council, Dorotea Pešić Bukovac informed the Malaysian Ambassador about the activities of the City Council, the relationships with national minorities and the aspects of their participation in the Council's activities with the recognisable multicultural attitude of Rijeka, she emphasised the importance of promoting a higher rate of women's participation in the political bodies of local self-government.


Warm welcome During the sojourn in Rijeka, Ambassador Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin visited the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral, while in the evening at 19:00 h, she will attend a concert to be given by the Music School Ivan Matetić Ronjgov from Rijeka in which their pupils and the guests from the Music School Blagoje Bersa from Zagreb, the Music School Vatroslav Lisinski from Zagreb, the Music School Franjo Kuhač from Osijek and the Music School Ivan Matetić Ronjgov from Pula will present themselves.
On Friday, the Malaysian Ambassador will visit the island of Krk.
