Rich programme on the occasion of the celebration of the World Health Day

Rijeka, 7 April 2010
On the occasion of the celebration of the World Health Day which this year is marked in Rijeka under the motto "Urbanisation and Health" many interesting events will take place on Korzo from 10 to 13:30 Saturday, 10 April, such as bicycle racing, a presentation of sports and recreation clubs and associations, and Rijeka public walks, while also providing health advice. The programme is aimed at raising the citizens' awareness so that they may become physically more active and thus improve their health.

Live the urban way and be healthy The World Health Organisation (WHO) has chosen for this year's World Health Day (7 April) the theme "Urbanisation and Health" recognising the influence of urbanisation on health in general and on the health of every individual. Namely, in 2007 the number of the population living in cities for the first time in history exceeded 50%, and this percentage keeps on growing.

Responding to the invitation forwarded by the World Health Organisation, the City of Rijeka has joined in the campaign called  "1000 cities - 1000 lives", within which more than 1000 cities across the world through various programmes endeavour to raise the awareness about the health challenges associated with urbanisation and also to make its citizens aware of the crucial influence of physical activity on health.
