Rijeka hosted the extraordinary meeting of the European Chess Union

Yesterday, at the Chess Centre Rijeka an extraordinary meeting of the ECU General Assembly was held. The meeting was chaired by Boris Kutin and attended by 45 out of 54 delegates. The delegates and guests were welcomed by the host and president of Chess Club Rijeka Damir Vrhovnik, while the deputy mayor of the City of Rijeka Željko Jovanović, pointed out that the rhythm of the city having a long and rich chess tradition those days was marked by chess and the European Championship.

ECU delegates The Assembly has adopted by unanimous vote the new Statute laying down technical modifications in the election procedure for the ECU bodies. A new point system has been adopted in the bidding process for cities hosting large tournaments, together with other changes in the tournament rules. The Assembly has proclaimed this year "Milan Vidmar Year", in the memory of the famous Slovenian GM. The ECU will soon announce a competition for a conceptual solution of the European Chess House to be built in Meljine near Herceg Novi (Montenegro).
