The competition was followed by Esteban Perez, chairman of the Technical Commission, acting as the World Karate Federation's delegate, who will evaluate whether Rijeka can run for the host of the World Senior Championship in 2016. The membership of the Croatian Karate Union includes 156 clubs and over 10,000 registered competitors, and as the president of the Croatian Karate Union, Stjepan Čelan said, the Rijeka region is best in karate in Croatia, it has exceptionally good athletes and referees, and therefore deserves such a competition.
Čelan thanked the City of Rijeka for hosting the championship and excellent conditions offered to competitors in the Zamet Centre and he invited all the Croatian competitors to come along and cheer up our athletes during the upcoming World Championship in Belgrade. Čelan handed over special plaques to the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, in gratitude for all the work done in order to organise this competition.
The City of Rijeka was actively engaged in the preparation of this competition, so Rijeka will be its host over the following four years. "In Rijeka, we highly value sport and the tradition of karate is very long and successful here. 10 clubs are active in Rijeka, therefore we are proud that we were given the chance to organise such a big competition", said mayor Vojo Obersnel, wishing that competitors achieve the best possible results, since the hall of the Zamet Centre provides excellent conditions.
On Saturday, the programme included the kata competition for the categories of cadets, juniors and seniors, both boys and girls, individually and as a team and fights for juniors, young seniors and seniors, both boys and girls per weight categories.
