"The Park on Wheels" in front of the primary school "Nikola Tesla"

Rijeka, 27 September 2010
Within the celebration of the European Mobility Week, the pupils attending the primary school "Nikola Tesla" covered with paintings used metal waste containers. Today, the containers have been placed on square Ivan Klobučarić, in front of the school. The painting and placing of the containers make part of the project initiated by the utility company Čistoća "The Park on Wheels" aimed at greening urban areas and educating children about the preservation of the environment.

"The Park on Wheels" placed in front of the primary school "Nikola Tesla" Led by the idea that the development of ecological conscience and the direction of citizens' behaviour towards the protection of the environment, protection, preservation and increase in green urban areas is best achieved by working with children and young people, the utility company "Čistoća" devised the eco-project "The Park on Wheels" including in it the pupils attending the primary school "Nikola Tesla".

Pupils covered with paintings old waste containersThe first project phase included the painting of old waste containers which due to their battered state are no longer suitable for use, while the pupils themselves decided to paint the containers with the motives of the four seasons. The second phase of the project anticipates that the containers with planted evergreen plants will be placed on square Ivana Klobučarića, and the children will be able to further take part in the project, since the organisers will try to encourage them to take care about the greenery in front of their school. Owing to this project, not only are the children included in a creative workshop which includes the painting of containers, but they are also included in education on environmental protection.
Square Ivana Klobučarića has been chosen for placing "The Park on Wheels" exactly because in issue is a city area without greenery. Namely, the trees on wheels can be easily moved, and when they overgrow the container they will be planted in a city avenue. Thus the mobile park will be yet anther decoration of the square, daily used by children, where artistic graffiti and children's drawings already exist.
