According to data provided by the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka, in 2021, the number of arrivals and overnight stays in Rijeka were higher than in 2020 and 2019.

In the period from 01 January to 31 December 2021, 109,843 arrivals we realised, or 78% up when compared to the total number of arrivals realised in the same period in 2020. The realised tourist turnover of 371,882 overnight stays, is 69% up when compared to the total number of overnight stays in the same period in 2020 and 80% up when compared to the total number of overnight stays realised in the same period in 2019. Foreign tourists realised 308,738 overnight stays.

In the city of Rijeka, the highest number of overnight stays was realised by German citizens 65,807, followed by Italian citizens 25,902, Bosnia and Herzegovina 22,167, Poland 19,715, the Czech Republic 19,510, Serbia 17,685, Austria 17,170, Hungary 11,106, the USA 10,541 and France 8,629 overnight stays.

Foreign tourists in the period from 01 January to 31 December 2021 sojourned on average 3.66 days. Domestic tourists sojourned on average 2.47 days in the mentioned period.

The Winter Pass project in Rijeka will support all those who provide accommodation services until the end of March, when all visitors staying in Rijeka for 2 or more days will be able to visit all museums in Rijeka, the Astronomy Centre and the Kantrida swimming pool complex free of charge. In 2022, we expect that the ship Galeb will be put in function and the opening of a permanent display aboard it. For Rijeka this is a very attractive museum space, which due to its historical role can also have a significant role in increasing interest in our city. The completion of works on the new building of the Rijeka Civic Library opens up opportunities for the Art Quarter to fully come to life as a cultural centre of the city where many events can be organised. Traditional St. Vitus’ days and the great Fiumanka regatta are next chances for additional promotion of our city and we believe that the pandemic will allow us to use those potentials”, believe the representatives of the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka.

The arrival of 2 trains from the Czech Republic and Poland will open the season this year, which will additionally boost the number of nights, consumption and will provide an opportunity for additional promotional activities in the destinations from which the trains arrive. In this sense, the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka will do its best to popularise Rijeka as a destination where these, mainly younger guests, can have a good time and see things of interest.

The Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka believes that the whole season will be great, that events during the summer will attract tourists and that finally this will be confirmed by statistics on arrivals, overnight stays and consumption, conclude the representatives of the Tourist Board.
