The City of Rijeka invites you to the international conference “Culture in the post-pandemic period – a chance for growth and new opportunities”, which will be held in the Children’s House within the Benčić complex on Wednesday, 30 November 2022, starting at 10 a.m., and in the premises of Ri Hub at the address Ivan Grohovac 1/A on Thursday, 1 December, starting at 9 a.m.

The conference is held within the MESOC (Measuring the Social Dimension of Culture) project, funded under the Horizon 2020 – EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Contract number 870935). The final, expected outcome of the project is free and open access, an Internet service (called the MESOC Toolkit) that could be used by researchers and professionals to measure the societal value and impact of cultural policies and practices.

Rijeka is among 10 European cities, along with Athens, Barcelona, Cluj, Ghent, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Milan, Turku, Valencia and Warsaw, that will conduct a pilot study as an evaluation tool for assessing the societal value and impact of cultural policies and practices related to three crossover themes of the New European Agenda for Culture: health and well-being, urban and territorial renovation and regeneration, and inclusion and participation of citizens.

The topics of urban and territorial renovation and regeneration, as well as inclusion and participation of citizens, will be the focus of the two-day conference.

Through the panel discussion during the first day of the conference, we will discuss the democratisation of culture, participatory governance and inclusion of citizens (panel discussion titled “New and/or shared spaces in culture”), and also in regard to traditional and digital culture and future perspectives. We will present the successful revitalisation and conversion of the industrial heritage into the cultural quarter “Benčić” and also the legacy of the successful project Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture and examples of good practices of European cities.
