A new cycle aimed at strengthening the urban public transport system includes the acquisition of 54 buses, whereby reducing the age of the vehicle fleet of Autotrolej to a six-year average.

During the new cycle aimed at strengthening the public transport system carried out in Rijeka and its surrounding area by Autotrolej, the company plans to buy 54 new buses in the period from 2018 to 2021.

Within this cycle, new vehicles worth HRK 129.5 million will be bought for Rijeka and its surrounding area, while the average vehicle fleet age, from 11 years, at the beginning of the cycle, will drop to only 6 years.

The acquisition of new 54 buses is supported by EU funding. The acquisition of new vehicles ensures a higher transport standard to passengers, it reduces operating costs, increases traffic safety, reduces emissions of gas and air pollution and ensures compliance with EU standards, and one of the goals is to increase the number of passengers in public transport compared to personal vehicles.

The first 22 new buses were bought in 2019.

In 2019, 22 new buses were bought, worth HRK 48.5 million. Nine MAN brand, solo low-floor buses were bought, which, owing to their technical characteristics, can be used in both urban and suburban transport.

Four MAN brand low-floor articulated urban buses were bought fuelled by diesel, and also nine Iveco brand suburban solo buses fuelled by diesel.

The bought vehicles meet the strict EURO 6 exhaust gas standard.

Out of the total value of buses, a grant amounting to HRK 38 million was provided following a tender published by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure for awarding a grant under EU funds, and the residual amount was financed by the state budget and Autotrolej. The grant in the amount of HRK 38 million was awarded under the Cohesion Fund, through the Operational Program “Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020.”

The acquisition of 32 new buses is underway via the Rijeka Urban Agglomeration.

The company plans that in 2021, 32 new buses will be delivered. The acquisition of 5 solo suburban buses, 7 articulated low-floor buses and 10 minibus vehicles fuelled by diesel is in course.

The acquisition of 10 urban solo low-floor buses fuelled by compressed natural gas is in course.

The value of new buses amounts to HRK 81 million, of which EU grants amount to HRK 54.5 million, and the residual amount is provided by Autotrolej, the City of Rijeka and Rijeka promet. The grants are awarded under the Cohesion Fund through the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion. A grant was also awarded through the Integrated Territorial Investment Mechanism (ITU mechanism), which the City of Rijeka can use as part of the Rijeka Urban Agglomeration, one among the chosen urban agglomerations in Croatia.

Over recent years, for almost HRK 74 million, Autotrolej has acquired 40 new buses fuelled by compressed natural gas.
