Since 2008, the Rijeka Firefighters Society and the City Department of Education and Schooling have been publishing competitions for the selection of the most successful visual art and literary works prepared by elementary school pupils on the topic of firefighting and fire protection.

The goal of the competition is to encourage creativity, popularise firefighting and widen the consciousness about firefighting among elementary school pupils, relying on the thought that preventive, i.e. preventing fire incidents is the most efficient tool in fire fighting and from an early age children should be taught about fire prevention.

The Rijeka Firefighters Society considers that if owing to this initiative they manage to prevent at least one fire, they’ve reached their goal. Also, they hope that elementary school pupils will join the activity of young firefighters, and will transfer their knowledge about fire and how to fight it to their friends and parents and that one day they will become firefighters.
