It was founded on 16 May 1876, and opened to the public on 1 May 1946. The museum is situated in the \u201cVladimir Nazor\u201d park, near the Governor\u2019s Palace, in the family building of Count Negroni. The activities of the institution are tied to collection, preparation and maintenance of specimens of nature belonging to the regions of Kvarner, Istria and Gorski Kotar.<\/p>\n<p>Through the permanent display of the Natural History Museum of Rijeka\u00a0you may find out more about natural heritage, the history of research and the condition and conservation of the Rijeka area.<\/p>\n<h2>The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14230 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rijeka.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Guvernerova-pala\u010da-600x435.jpg\" alt=\"Guvernerova pala\u010da\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/ppmhp.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littora<\/a>l is a successor to the institutions \u2013 the Civic Museum, which beginnings are tied to the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and the development of the museum activity in Rijeka and to the Civic Museum of Su\u0161ak founded in 1934. By merging these two museums the Museum of the Croatian Littoral was created which in 1961 changed its name to the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral.<\/p>\n<p>The rich museum holdings of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral are composed of materials in archaeology, maritime, ethnographic, cultural and history sections.<\/p>\n<p>In all the holdings a part of the valuable collection of portraits of persons from the public life of Rijeka, rulers and officials, as well as richer and known and unknown citizens are present. They represent the documents from which one can read numerous data about Rijeka, the way of thinking and the culture of life of that time.<\/p>\n<h2>The State Archives of Rijeka<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14232 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rijeka.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/TM043-Dr\u017eavni-arhiv-Rijeka-400x600.jpg\" alt=\"TM043 Dr\u017eavni arhiv Rijeka\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The storage rooms of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riarhiv.hr\/\">the State Archives of Rijeka<\/a>, keep written historical materials of the Kvarner region, Gorski Kotar and Istria.\u00a0The oldest document deposited in the State Archives of Rijeka dates back to 1201.
