CIVITAS SUMPs-UP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan – SUMP)<\/h3>\n

Project Goal:<\/h3>\n

The aim of the project is to help cities experiencing negative transport effects in the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans – SUMP) – as strategic long-term plans that integrate all transport means and contribute to balanced urban, social and economic development.<\/p>\n

The key goal is to solve problems related to transport in urban areas, strategically and in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union relating to the sustainability of all segments of development of society and the environment. In a narrower sense, the goal of developing and implementing sustainable urban mobility plans is to reduce negative impacts of transport, improve accessibility for all categories of society and ensure high-quality, multimodal and well-integrated mobility and transport.<\/p>\n

In mid-2017, the City of Rijeka was included in another project from the CIVITAS family: CIVITAS SUMPS-UP, in the platform Innovation Pilot Pool \/ Innovation Implementation Group – SUMP Learning Program SLP1, the first in a cycle of three planned SLP groups. The CIVITAS SUMPs-Up project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, and it brings together European cities, researchers, universities, environmental organizations, climate institutes, transport consultants and mobility experts in a single initiative to help cities introduce cleaner and more sustainable mobile solutions.<\/p>\n

\"\"SUMP-s UP is one of three projects related to sustainable urban mobility plans within the European Union’s CIVITAS 2020 initiative. It brings together eight partner organisations and seven partner cities to help European cities introduce cleaner and more sustainable transport and mobility. The project helps overcome obstacles that prevent or hinder the implementation of sustainable urban mobility plans (hereinafter SUMP): they indicate the need for capacity building for implementing the process, provide tailored information and support during plan development, show the stages of plan development, and seek provide participants with necessary knowledge and skills to understand the process and the highest quality manner in which all activities should be implemented.<\/p>\n

Emphasis is placed on countries and areas where the implementation of SUMP was realised to a lesser extent. The City of Rijeka joined the project in September 2017. It is a multi-year project, and in the first part – called Sump Learning Program 1 (SLP 1) – three webinars, three e-courses and three workshops were held in Thessaloniki (Greece), Brussels (Belgium) Tampere (Finland). Programme participants are at different stages of preparation, development or adoption of SUMP, where interesting information is obtained through mutual exchange of experiences.<\/p>\n

SUMPs-Up helps mobility planning bodies, especially in countries where there are several SUMPs, to overcome obstacles that stop them or make it difficult to implement plans. It provides cities with training opportunities, tools and guidelines to help them develop quality SUMPs and it works with national governments to raise awareness of the concept and creates favourable conditions that will facilitate the development of SUMPs for local authorities.<\/p>\n
