The project is co-financed under the European Structural and Investment Funds – European Regional Development Fund – Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020.<\/p>\nThe sorting plant for separately collected waste (sorting plant) within the recycling centre in Miha\u010deva Draga will be built over a total area of 5,636 sq. m. The technological process of the plant, which is considered to be the most modern in this part of Europe, includes taking over, drying, sorting, baling, technological separation of unused material and recycling of raw materials that can have a market value, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection.<\/p>\n
Solar panels are envisaged on the roof of the sorting hall, that would produce electricity for the needs of the sorting plant, thus contributing to environmental protection and reduction in operating costs.<\/p>\n
The project is co-financed under the European Structural and Investment Funds – European Regional Development Fund – Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020.<\/p>\n
The total project value amounts to HRK 37,301,045.00, of which the grant amounts to HRK 31,284,318.09 provided through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy under the structural and cohesion funds. The remaining funds up to the total project value amount to HRK 6,016,726.91 and are borne by the City of Rijeka and local self-government units \u2013 the cities of Kastav, Kraljevica and Bakar and the municipalities of Vi\u0161kovo, Klana, \u010cavle, Jelenje and Kostrena, in accordance with the evaluation criteria relating to the share of an individual local self-government unit in the total quantity of waste. The final share will be determined after the project has been realised.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the project, relating to the construction of the sorting plant mayor Obersnel said that with that project investment in the integrated waste collection and management system established in 2015 continued by placing more than 8,800 special visually marked containers for valuable waste types.<\/p>\n
Also, the utility company \u010cisto\u0107a Rijeka manages three mobile recycling halls and five fixed recycling halls in the territory of its operation, which have a significant role in the overall system of sustainable waste management because they enable citizens to dispose of valuable and problematic types of household waste.<\/p>\n
In the next phase of waste collection system individualisation, all users in the territory of operation of the utility company \u010cisto\u0107a will have a possibility to dispose of valuable types of waste in separate, individual containers. This system will certainly encourage the growth of quantity and quality of valuable separately collected types of waste, which will reduce the costs of the utility company \u010cisto\u0107a in terms of less municipal waste to be handed over to the waste management centre Mari\u0161\u0107ina, which, with separation, aims to reduce the price that citizens pay today.<\/p>\n
In order for the sorting system to be optimal, there must be a market for secondary raw materials that will continue to use these raw materials. In recent years, there has been a disturbance in that market, but the mayor expressed his belief that the situation would be stabile in the foreseeable future. \u201cIf the market of secondary raw materials starts to function as it should, then the utility company \u010cisto\u0107a will also benefit from it\u201d, said the mayor.<\/p>\n
The contract for the construction and equipment of the sorting plant in Miha\u010deva Draga worth HRK 33,568,157.43 (including VAT) includes the price of all construction, craft and installation works and the equipment of the sorting plant. The contract does not cover project management services, design supervision services, professional supervision services and others.<\/p>\n
The works should start by the end of February, while the predicted deadline for work completion is 12 months.<\/p>\n
