Summer in Rijeka – European Capital of Culture brings many events<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rijeka, the city that in this incredible year 2020 bears the European Capital of Culture title, after two months of mandatory isolation, returns into focus of the cultural public, artists and the audience. About ten music festival and weekend concerts, thirty drama and dance performances and stand-up performances, about ten performances of classical music, choirs, opera, orchestra, fifteen exhibitions and special attractions, among which a magnificent exhibition – the largest one ever dedicated to Rijeka – Fiume Fantastika : the city phenomena are only part of the rich cultural summer programme that will take place in Rijeka during July and August.<\/p>\n

Thanks to great energy put in reshaping the ECC programme, and the communion of all cultural institutions in Rijeka, the company Rijeka 2020, numerous associations and individuals – Rijeka justifies its ECC title and proudly continues to be a city where each corner this summer breathes culture.<\/p>\n

Already in May and June, following reduction in social distancing measures, several smaller theatre forms, exhibitions, children’s plays and film screenings were presented to the Rijeka audience, and at the beginning of summer the city’s cultural hustle and bustle heats up. Without much fanfare, the waters of Rijeka (meaning river) again run deep and the city remains the most interesting destination this year.<\/p>\n

The programme, which is still being complemented, in addition to the specified festivals and concerts, classical music performances and exhibitions brings about twenty drama performances for children, Children’s Festival Toboggan, film screenings at the summer Art Cinema, inauguration of permanent sculptures within the artistic and tourist route Lungomare Art, and events in about ten villages, the so-called 27 neighbourhoods, in the territory of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and the programmes from September onwards bring even bigger stories owing to the opening of infrastructure facilities, the Civic Museum and the Children’s House, that are under construction in the former Rikard Ben\u010di\u0107 factory, a future cultural quarter.<\/p>\n

The year marked by an excellent start, was transformed due to the global pandemic, culture in Rijeka was stopped only for a while and the announcement of some summer events shows that Rijeka has not given up. About 120 single events in Rijeka and its surroundings during July and August have been announced today at a large press conference, with a remark that the summer programme will be further complemented and that all events will be additionally individually announced in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Most of the dates and locations of performances are already known. Exportdrvo, the building of the former port warehouse, for which the City of Rijeka recently received a concession, will host about twenty programmes in just two summer months, and it will continue to be vibrant after August. The downtown Squar of Rijeka Resolution will become a new location that will host dramatic dance performances and puppet shows, stand-up performances and classical concerts. Across the city, and further away, in the towns of Kvarner and in a number of neighborhoods in the territory of the Primorje Gorski Kotar County, programmes will be held that will keep the local and a wider community awake.<\/p>\n
