The City of Rijeka fosters friendly relationships with a number of European and world cities

  • Bitola – Macedonia
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly co-operation between the two cities was signed in Rijeka on 17 September 2009.  The agreement on the establishment of friendly co-operation aimed at improving co-operation between the two cities in the fields of economy, tourism, culture, sports, universities, was signed in Bitola on 4 November 2011.
  • Burgas – Bulgaria
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly co-operation between the City of Burgas and the City of Rijeka was signed in Rijeka on 29 October 2008.  The agreement on the establishment of friendly co-operation was signed on 21 April 2016.
  • Cetinje – Montenegro
    The Friendship Agreement was signed in Rijeka on 10 September 2010.
  • Csepel -the 21st administrative district of Budapest, Hungary
    The Protocol of Cooperation between the City of Rijeka and Csepel was signed in Rijeka on 8 February 1997, and the Cooperation Agreement between the City Government of Budapest – Csepel (Budapest, Hungary) and the City Government of Rijeka (Rijeka, Croatia) on 8 March 2002 in Csepel.
  • Dalian – PR China
    The Agreement whereby establishing friendly co-operation between the City of Dalian and the City of Rijeka was signed in Dalian on 26 April 2006.
  • Este – Italy
    The Twinning Agreement between the City of Rijeka and the City of Este was signed in Rijeka on 21 Nov. 2004 and on 1 October 2015.
  • Faenza – Italy
    The Twinning Protocol between the City of Faenza and the City of Rijeka was signed in Rijeka on 16 September 1983
  • Gdansk – Poland
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly cooperation between Gdansk and Rijeka was signed on 23 November 2015.
  • Gdynia – Poland
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly cooperation was signed on 23 November 2015
  • Genova – Italy
    The Friendship Agreement  was signed in Genoa on 13 Oct. 2004 and in Rijeka on 7 Feb. 2005
  • Gomel – Belarus
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly cooperation was signed on 3 June 2016.
  • Karlsruhe – Germany
    The Agreement whereby establishing cooperation in various projects with the aim of improving the existing and developing new projects in the field of health care and social welfare, universities, the economy and culture was signed on 15 June in Rijeka and on 16 September in Karlsruhe.
  • Kawasaki – Japan
    The Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between the city of Kawasaki and Rijeka was signed on 23 June 1977.
    The 2nd Cooperation Programme between Kawasaki and Rijeka was signed on 5 Nov. 1980, while the Third Cooperation Agreement between Kawasaki and Rijeka  was signed in Rijeka on 17 May 1999.
    On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Kawasaki and Rijeka, the 4th Memorandum on further friendly cooperation was signed on 8 May 2007.
  • Ljubljana – Slovenia
    The cooperation and twinning agreement between the cities was signed on 23October 1979.The letter of intent aimed at deepening friendly relations between the cities of Ljubljana and Rijeka was signed on 4 March 2000 in Ljubljana. The agreement on strengthening friendly cooperation between Rijeka and Ljubljana was signed on 21 January 2004.
  • Neuss – Germany
    Friendly cooperation was established about 40 years ago through the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The agreement on the association between the city of Rijeka and the city of Neuss on friendship and cooperation was signed on 26 October 1990 in Neuss and Rijeka.
  • Ningbo – PR China
    The Memorandum of Cooperation between the two cities in the area of the economy, trade and port activities was signed in Rijeka on 5 November 2010.
    The Cooperation Agreement was signed in Ningbo on 7 June 2011
  • Novi Sad – Serbia
    The initiative whereby establishing friendly co-operation between the two cities  was signed in Novi Sad on 2 February 2011
  • Rome – Italy
    The friendship and cooperation agreement on between the City of Rome and the City of Rijeka was signed in Rome on 18 June 2010. The cooperation was limited to a short period of time and was based on the exchange of historical facts. The three-year agreement on friendly cooperation with the City of Rome expired in 2013.
  • Rostock – Germany
    The agreement between the Council of the City of Rostock and the Assembly of the Rijeka Municipality aimed at improving friendly relations was signed on 7 October 1974, and the Cooperation Agreement between the Hanseatic City of Rostock and the City of Rijeka was signed on 28 October 2002 in Rijeka.
  • Trieste – Italy
    The Letter of Intent whereby establishing friendly co-operation was signed in Trieste on 1 September 2010. The Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between the City of Rijeka and the City of Trieste whereby conforming their will to deepen friendly relationships was signed in Rijeka on 20 September 2011.
  • Tuzla – Bosnia and Herzegovina
    The Letter of Intent whereby establishing friendly co-operation was signed in Tuzla on 12 September 2022.
  • Qingdao – PR China
    The Letter of Intent whereby establishing friendly relations was signed between the cities of Rijeka and  Qingdao signed in Rijeka on 7 June 1998, and the Friendship Agreement between the City of Rijeka and the City of Qingdao was signed on 11 July 1999. The Twinning Agreement was signed in Qingdao on 22 August 2010.
