The evaluation of the implementation of civic education in primary schools in Rijeka has shown that pupils positively respond to civic education classes, and what is particularly important, they have changed their attitudes towards rights and duties, cooperation, respect for others and tolerance towards others who are different. After a whole day’s discussion, the City Council has adopted the 2018 budget of the City of Rijeka in the amount of HRK 1,059 billion, moreover 2019 and 2020 budgetary projections have been adopted. To the original draft budget, proposed by the mayor, part of amendments proposed by councillors have been inserted. The session was carried over into the next day due to numerous breaks.

Projects of the City of Rijeka presented at the annual conference of the European Healthy Cities Network
The representative of the City of Rijeka took part in the annual meeting of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network held in the Hungarian city of Pecs. During the conference Rijeka presented its projects “The Society in Which I Learn and Feel Good” and “Rijeka in Movement“. Furthermore, a meeting of a particular group operating within the European Healthy Cities Network was held addressing healthy ageing problems, in which the City of Rijeka also takes part.
The landfill gas power plant, situated on the rehabilitated landfill site Viševac has been put into trial operation. It is a plant that for the production of electricity uses gas generated by the decomposition of organic compounds, which otherwise would be burned, whereby reducing emissions of landfill gas and achieving energy efficiency. The plant is worth HRK 10 million, exclusive of VAT, and is entirely financed by utility company Čistoća.
Rijeka mayor Vojko Obersnel forwarded to the City Council the Budget Proposal of the City of Rijeka for 2017, in the amount of HRK 948.2 million, which represents an increase of 2.6% when compared to the 2016 budget.
