The STEM laboratory of the Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka at the address Korzo 2A is aimed at promoting STEM among all citizens from an early age. It is equipped with interactive stations that introduce us to the world of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and technology.

The premises consist of a STEM laboratory, a studio for recording online lectures and webinars, and an office for a professional service that will be available to organisations, institutions and citizens who want to work together in order to promote STEM in the local community.

There, you can explore topics such as the mathematics of tiling, exponential growth, fractals, probability, movement trajectory, encryption and coding. Group guided tours of the premises are envisaged, presenting STEM exhibits to educational institutions, as well as a number of workshops and lectures with the primary goal of promoting STEM among citizens, which will be carried out in cooperation with colleagues from the academic and civil sectors who helped design the premises and the display of the STEM laboratory.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the new STEM laboratory, the mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipović, the executive director of the CTC Rijeka Olivera Stanić and the Coordinator of the CTC’s development programmes Zagorka Prce Veseli welcomed the attendees.

“I congratulate the Centre of Technical Culture on the inauguration of the STEM laboratory, which, I believe, will be used by everyone, starting from our youngest fellow citizens to those somewhat older. I hope that the sojourn of the youngest in this laboratory will arouse their interest in the STEM subjects and that their further education will move in that direction. The City of Rijeka encourages the development of projects within STEM-related fields, and I believe that the concept of this laboratory is something that other local self-government units could be interested in, to take it over and continue developing it in their communities”, said the mayor, wishing the Centre of Technical Culture a lot of successful in the new premises.

Taking into account the trends in distance learning and teaching, the laboratory is also equipped with a studio for conducting or recording online lectures and webinars. Apart from using it for its own needs, the CTC Rijeka will lend it to other organisations and institutions that do not have the capacity to implement online learning in any form. Considering its rich experience in organisation management, the CTC Rijeka will establish the Professional Service at the new address that will provide support to other civil society organisations, with a special emphasis on associations from the field of technical culture. The Professional Service of the CTC Rijeka, which has many years of experience in the absorption of funds, financial and administrative management of organisations, while regularly following legislation and regulations, will be available through education and counselling to all who have innovative, creative, entrepreneurial and inclusive ideas for the community.

The equipping of the premises was funded under the European Social Fund, intended for the STEM (AJMO!) project and by the City of Rijeka.
