Donation in favour of the homeless shelter "The Roses of St. Francis"

The mayor of the City of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel presented a cheque worth HRK 103,162.73 to the head of the homeless shelter "The Roses of St. Francis". The cheque relates to the proceeds collected during the humanitarian campaign organised within this year's edition of the Rijeka Carnival, which the shelter will use to improve the work of the creative workshop initiated with the aim of resocialising shelter beneficiaries.

Agreement between the City of Rijeka and the World Chess Federation

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has supported Rijeka in its endeavour to be assigned the organisation of the Mediterranean Games in 2017. Through its national boards in Mediterranean countries, FIDE will put lobbying efforts for Rijeka to play host to the Games, while the City of Rijeka will propose to include chess in the list of the official sports categories played at the Mediterranean Games.

Zamet Centre designed by the architecture studio 3LHD from Zagreb, has been awarded "The Building of the Year 2009" prize in the category of sports architecture by the most visited Architecture website in the world ArchDaily, competing with 900 projects published in 2009. This portal was founded in 2008, with the mission of delivering the most complete information to architects around the world.

Rijeka ready for the beginning of the chess championship hosting a record number of participants

The 11th European Individual Chess Championship for men and women - EURO 2010 will take place from 5 to 19 March at the Centre Zamet. 590 competitors, including 246 grandmasters from 41 European countries have registered their participation in the most important chess competition ever held in Croatia. The EURO 2010 Championship will host a record number of participants and grandmasters which will establish Rijeka and Croatia on the chess map of Europe.

Formed the Olympians Club of Rijeka

The founding meeting of the Olympians Club of Rijeka was held at the City Hall. The objective of the Club is to promote Rijeka as a city with as many as about seventy Olympians and sixteen Olympics medal winners. Aramis Naglić, gold Olympian in Barcelona has been elected president of the Club, while the mayor of the City of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel, its first honorary member.

Platak is awaiting the European ski racing elite

Reception in honour of the delegation of the Municipality of Rome

A reception was given at the City of Rijeka in honour of the delegation of the Municipality of Rome led by the city councillor responsible for educational policies Laura Marsilio, who sojourns in Rijeka accompanied by 250 students attending secondary schools in Rome. During the reception the president of the City Council, Dorotea Pešič-Bukovac received an invitation to sign a cooperation agreement between Rijeka and Rome with the aim of initiating more intensive co-operation in the field of education, culture, science, sports, as well as health welfare and tourism.

It is yet another book that recalls the rich history of Rijeka, while just briefly addressing the invention of the torpedo, and much more focussing on Whitehead as the personality, recalling also the time and society in which he worked as the manufacturer, inventor, philanthropist and an active member of the social life.

Reception for the Israeli Ambassador

Free Wireless Internet Access in Rijeka
The IT Department of the City of Rijeka, in cooperation with the company “Krk sistemi" ltd., developed the Project of Free Wireless Internet Access for all the citizens that use portable computers, as well as all the tourists and visitors of this city. The free wireless Internet signal covers the downtown area, part of Trsat, the swimming-pool complex at Kantrida, and since October 2009 the Centre Zamet and the cinema "Art-kino Croatia" as well. |
