Rijeka mayor Marko Filipović and the deputy president of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Marina Medarić held a reception in honour of the Ambassador of Hungary, H.E. Csaba Demcsák.

“For Hungary, the Kvarner Bay is of great economic, tourist and cultural importance. Rijeka is home to a significant number of members of the Hungarian national minority who are active members of the city’s cultural life. We consider the work of the Hungarian Language Lectorate which has started its second semester at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Rijeka to be very successful”, said the Ambassador of Hungary Demcsák, emphasising that he gladly and often visits Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

Wishing a warm welcome to the Ambassador of Hungary, mayor Filipović pointed out that over the next four years Rijeka would change its face by realising the projects tied to the port of Rijeka, primarily by connecting the Zagreb container terminal with the Rijeka roundabout and constructing a marina in the Baroš port.

“All these projects will greatly influence the economy of Rijeka and enhance the quality of life of our fellow citizens, improving it in terms of urban and nautical tourism. We do not lack interest of foreign investors in these projects, which is a signal that our policy is properly planned, “said Filipovic, referring to the project of the construction of the lowland railway and the introduction of a special train Rijeka – Budapest in 2019. He also reminded the attendees of the important long-term friendly relationships with the Hungarian city of Csepel and cooperation with the city of Pécs, especially during 2020, in which Rijeka had held the title of European Capital of Culture.

Deputy president Medarić reminded that the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County had excellent relations with a number of Hungarian regions, and with some of them implemented joint EU projects. Expressing her satisfaction with the fact that Hungarian tourists gladly choose the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County for their vacation, deputy Medarić pointed out that special attention was paid to visitors’ health and safety. She also stressed the importance of continuing investments in the INA refinery in Rijeka.

During the meeting the attendees pointed out excellent cooperation between Hungary and the City of Rijeka and the PGK County.

Let us remind you that members of the Hungarian minority are active in Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, brought together in the association Democratic Union of Hungarians in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, in their new premises Villa Ana, in the quarter of Pećine, also the headquarters of the Honorary Consul of Hungary in Rijeka.
