Scope of activity of the Administrative Department

The Administrative Department of education and schooling, culture, sports and youth carries out the activities tied to:

  • providing financial and material conditions for the work of educational institutions (kindergartens and elementary schools) founded by the City, preparing proposals for determining education and school programmes above the state pedagogic standard to be financed from the city budget, participation in coordination activities related to young people falling within the City’s competence and proposing the scope and manner of using facilities dedicated to the education and supervising their utilisation;
  • awarding scholarships to secondary school and university students
  • monitoring the situation in the field of culture, ensuring financial and material conditions for the work of cultural institutions founded by the City, distribution of the City’s budgetary funds approved for cultural programmes and the protection and preservation of cultural assets, implementing programme and project activities in the field of culture that are in the interest of the City,
  • Carrying out professional activities tied to cultural manifestations and programmes in the interest of the city, monitoring the earmarked spending of budgetary funds, and making available the cultural premises owned by the City
  • tasks related to the City’s programme of public necessities in the field of culture, sports and technical culture, monitoring and supervising the implementation of the programme of public necessities and monitoring the use and expenditure of funds intended for the implementation of the programme of public necessities in the field of sports and technical culture, proposing the scope and manner of using facilities dedicated to sports and technical culture and supervising their utilisation;
  • monitoring the work and operation of the educational institutions (kindergartens and elementary schools) and cultural institutions founded by the City
  • cooperation with the Community of sports associations of the city of Rijeka, the Community of technical culture of the city of Rijeka and limited liability company “Rijeka sport”
  • other tasks within the scope of their activity determined by special laws, other regulations and decisions taken by the mayor and the City Council.
