The Art-cinema Croatia has been opened with the aim of creating a quality film offer, based on the screening of cinematheque programmes, contemporary art and documentary films as well as experimental and animated films and short films, whereby the programme of the Art-cinema Croatia integrated the roles of cinematheque and art-cinema.

The Art-cinema is a public institution operating in the field of film art and culture, founded by the City of Rijeka. The Institution’s programme activities take place in the cinema hall of the Art-cinema Croatia, a smaller hall of the Mini Art-cinema opened in 2015 and the Children’s House.

On the international and national film scene, the Art-cinema is recognised as a program-oriented, pleasant and beautiful place where guests are happy to come, which is confirmed by numerous film premieres held in Rijeka, guest appearances by film artists, critics and theorists. The Art cinema is an important part of the identity of Rijeka and one of the levers of its international promotion.

In addition to film programmes, book presentations and round tables are also organised, where the role of the film and cinema in the life of the city are discussed. The Art cinema cooperates with the Croatian Audio-visual Centre.

The cinema has a film reading room with books in the field of film theory, history, monographs, magazines and DVD editions. In the summer months, the Art cinema operates outdoors as the Summer cinema.

Due to the need to show artistically relevant programmes that do not attract a large number of visitors, a Mini Art-cinema was opened, which is used for panels, exhibitions and presentations related to film genres, styles, presentation of publications and presentation of national cinematography. The hall can accommodate about fifteen spectators and is located at the same address within the Art-cinema Croatia. The programme intended for children takes place in the Children’s House.
