Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art within the Benčič complex

From 2013 to 2020, a generational step forward was made in order to raise the quality of the infrastructural foundations of culture. For the first time since their establishment, three cultural institutions in Rijeka (the Civic Museum of Rijeka, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Civic Library of Rijeka) have been given the opportunity to operate in the premises especially renovated and equipped for them, in accordance with their specific needs.

Along with a step forward in the institutional sector, new premises for independent culture have also been opened, enabling the organisational strengthening of the civil sector, as well as providing an opportunity for the development of entrepreneurs operating in the field of creative industries. All the newly opened – renovated and equipped premises enabled us to have a larger and consequently better cultural offer.

From 2013 to 2020, 21 new premises intended for cultural activities were renovated and equipped, 13 of which are managed by institutions, and 5 by various users, while 3 are managed by the City of Rijeka, but are available for use of all citizens.
