The second edition of the Torpedo Days, manifestation aimed at promoting new technologies, was held in the Torpedo Production Park. The central theme this time was the application of smart solutions in various industries.

The manifestation was attended by representatives of the University, public and private sectors, who had an opportunity to express their views on the needs and opportunities for development by applying new technologies.

The manifestation was kicked off by Dario Zorić, director of the Rijeka Development Agency “Porin”, that manages the Torpedo Production Park, who addressed the audience. “These premises were inaugurated a year ago, and they operate very successfully, considering that 12 out of 14 workshop premises have been occupied. Various innovators operate in these premises who create diverse products, starting from food, alcoholic beverages and cosmetics to products created by using CNC machines and machines used in the metalworking industry,” said Zoric, adding that he would like that the Torpedo days become a traditional event that would be held 3 to 4 times a year. “In this way, we would like to promote new technologies as much as possible and get as many people as possible interested in it,” he concluded.

On behalf of the City of Rijeka, Nataša Zrilić, Senior Advisor for Development and Economy of the City of Rijeka, addressed the participants. “Rijeka has opted for development based on new technologies, innovation and creativity. We have succeeded in financing this and similar projects with money from European funds. In this context, I can mention the Bodulovo business zone, which will also be oriented to the ICT sector, as well as Energana (Power plant), which will become a new start-up incubator for the ICT creative industries. I believe that this is a successful path to development of our city “, said Zrilić.

The introductory lecture was given by Damir Medved, sales manager in the new business areas at Ericsson Nikola Tesla, following this, a panel discussion was held on the application of smart solutions in various industries. The participants were Damir Medved, Luka Bracanović, representative of E-glass, Igor Felc, founder of REEV Electric and Mateo Starčević Filipović, director of BrightDock & Huuk.

Furthermore, a tour of the Torpedo Production Park was also organised for the participants, with a demonstration of industrial equipment for additive technology, so they had an opportunity to see the principles of 3D printing, scanning and modelling.

The programme was attended, among others, by Saša Zelenika, Vice-Rector of the University of Rijeka, Alen Host, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Doris Sošić head of Europe Direct Rijeka.

The organisers of the manifestation are the City of Rijeka, Department of Entrepreneurship, the Rijeka Development Agency “Porin” and Europe Direct Rijeka.
