Marko Filipović, mayor of Rijeka and Ivan Šarar, head of the Department of Culture met with the representatives of the Korean Cultural and Art Centres Association.

The Korean Cultural and Art Centres Association (KoCACA) is an organization founded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea that brings together 223 cultural and art centres throughout Korea.

During the meeting with the president of KoCACA, Seung Jung Lee and the representatives of various Korean art centres, the title of European Capital of Culture that Rijeka held in 2020 was discussed among others, i.e. the cultural and infrastructural heritage of that title and its significance for Rijeka. The Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Korea this year celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and according to Mayor Filipović, cooperation between the City of Rijeka and the Korean Embassy in Croatia is successful and the members of the embassy participate in some events in Rijeka such as the International Rijeka Carnival. Filipović also pointed out friendly relations with several Asian cities, and mutual interest was expressed in establishing a twin city relationship between Rijeka and a Korean city, which would improve cooperation, especially in the field of culture and art.

The main goal of this delegation’s visit to Croatia is to exchange information and experience with representatives of Croatian organisations in the field of culture and art, to get to know Croatian art and cultural heritage, as well as to visit various cultural institutions.

Before paying visit to the City of Rijeka, the delegation visited the CNT Ivan Zajc, where for the occasion a short programme was prepared for them.
