The literary prize “Drago Gervais” was set up in honour of the writer Drago Gervais, whose name and opus are characterized by this cultural climate.

This prize aims to encourage literary creation and strengthen the connections between the local cultural scene and wider, global literary trends.

The prize is assigned in two categories, for:

• the best unpublished literary work (novel, poetry collection, short stories, drama etc.)
• the best published literary work in one of the idioms of the Chakavian dialect of the Croatian language.

The prize is pecuniary. In the category of the best unpublished literary work, apart from the cash prize, owing to a special agreement with the Rijeka Civic Library, the author is also entitled to publish his literary works.

The prize is awarded biannually.
