In addition to the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Rijeka, that counts about 140 firefighters, two voluntary firefighters’ associations “Sušak-Rijeka” and “Drenova” also operate in Rijeka with respectively about 20 firefighters and the firefighting brigades that operate within the shipyard “3. maj” and company “Luka” Rijeka, which activities are co-ordinated by the Firefighting Community of the city of Rijeka.

The Public Fire Brigade is financed from the state budget, through decentralised funds intended for firefighting, while the City of Rijeka and local self government units from Rijeka surroundings every year provide additional funds for the operation of the Brigade.

The Public Fire Brigade inherits the tradition of the first firefighting organisation, established in Croatia 1863.
