StartupBlink, the most famous global platform for mapping the startup ecosystem and research centre, has published its annual report, according to which Rijeka is still the second best city as regards the development of start-ups in Croatia, right after Zagreb, while it has moved up by as many as 11 places in the world ranking compared to 2022.

The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2023 places Rijeka in the 439th place in the world and the 32nd in Eastern Europe, what contributes to its constant progress are registered start-ups, many of which derive from the Startup Incubator of the City of Rijeka, and some entrepreneurs included in the incubators of the Rijeka Development Agency Porin.

According to StartupBlink’s analysis, the start-up climate in Rijeka has changed somewhat compared to last year, so today it attracts and supports to a larger degree young companies from the fields of energy and environment, marketing and sales, trade and e-commerce.

In the period from 2020 to today, the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Rijeka has climbed 22 places in the global scale, which is an excellent result considering the unfavourable economic and development circumstances caused by the epidemic, war events and inflation.

The StartupBlink platform brings out a new ranking of the best start-up ecosystems every year, covering 100 countries and 1000 cities of the world. Croatia is also among the top 50 this year, in the 44th place in the global ranking, and in the 26th place in the European framework.

“In the synergy of the City Departments, the Rijeka Development Agency Porin and the Start-up Incubator Rijeka, we monitor, support and create successful and innovative start-ups of the future thanks to talented people and their creative business ideas,” said mayor Marko Filipović.
