This is a primary prevention programme of drug and other substances abuse, vandalism, peer violence and other forms of risk behaviour, dedicated to fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade pupils of elementary schools and their parents. The programme, launched in school year 2010/2011, consists of five components:

  • "I can if I want to -1" (MAH 1)
  • "The fair of possibilities"
  • "Prevention and alternative -1" (PIA 1)
  • "Prevention and alternative -2" (PIA 2)
  • "I can if I want to - 2" (MAH 2)

The programme promoter is the Police Administration of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County. The programme is implemented by the employees of the Prevention Department, Police Administration of the Primorje – Gorski Kotar County in close cooperation with the Department of Education and Schooling and the Department of Health and Social Welfare.

"I can if I want to 1" includes organized visits of fourth-graders to police stations in order to bring the police closer to the pupils so that they may accept the policeman as a friend who assists them as well we to prevent addiction, violence and vandalism. The initiative was promoted over the entire school year.

At the Fair of Possibilities various cultural, artistic, sports and other associations present their programmes to MAH-1 participants, so that pupils, in agreement with their parents, can choose an activity to practice in their free time.

The "Prevention and Alternative 1" component is promoted over the entire school year for fifth-graders. This component is directed towards the importance of an early identification and problem solution, with an emphasis on the prevention of drug abuse, violence among young people, vandalism and other forms of risk behaviour. Within this component a police officer conducts an interactive workshop and a knowledge quiz at school during one school class.

"Prevention and Alternative 2" (PIA-2) consists of an interactive conference held by a police officer for sixth-graders. The theme of the conference is "Drug abuse and other forms of risk behaviour."

"I can if I want to 2" (MAH-2), is implemented by a police officer in a 45-minute meeting with the parents of sixth-graders. The theme of the meeting is focussed on the problem of addictions and other unacceptable behaviour of minors from the point of view of legal regulations and police action.
