Global tourism trends indicate the growing city tourism market segment and selective forms of tourism that under its auspices can be developed in nearby surroundings. The policy for the development of urban tourism requires a network of cooperative relationships between local authorities, tourist agencies, tourist organisations and city organisations for city revitalisation and partnership relations between the public and private sectors, which in developing infrastructure and tourist offer give the best results.
In this sense, the City of Rijeka through its Department of Entrepreneurship has taken a number of activities aiming both to connect the stakeholders in the demanding tourism market and promote Rijeka as an interesting tourism destination. The City has particularly fostered active and partnership relations with the Tourist Board of the city of Rijeka, as the most important stakeholder in the creation of the tourist offer of the city.
In coordination with the city Tourist Board, the City of Rijeka endeavours to improve the offer of tourist attractions through activities in which citizens and local entrepreneurs take part in cooperation with institutions and professional associations.
The projects that are implemented in order to develop Rijeka as a tourism destination are organised with the aim of raising the general quality level and the appearance of living space, maintaining, preserving and improving the tourist area and environmental protection.
