During his recent sojourn in China, mayor Obersnel visited Qingdao, Dalian and Peking

At the invitation of the mayor of Qingdao, Mr Xia Geng, in the period from 21 to 27 August the mayor of the City of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel, accompanied by the director of the Tourist Bureau of the City of Rijeka Tourist Board, Petar Škarpa, was on an official visit to China, where he visited the cities of Qingdao, Dalian and Peking. During the visit, the Twinning Agreement, i.e. agreement on sister relationships, between Rijeka and Qingdao was signed, the cities that until then had held the friendship cities' status.

International summer school "SenZations"

Until 3 September, the 5th international summer school "SenZations", dedicated to new technologies, is taking place at the City Hall. The school, organised for the first time in Croatia, addresses scientific and professional aspects of wireless sensor networks. The organiser of the school is the Business Academy Rijeka with partners, under the sponsorship of the City of Rijeka.

The University of Rijeka's first Alpine Expedition - ˝Kilimanjaro- Africa 2010˝

In the period between September 14 and October 6 this year, the members of the University of Rijeka are planning to conquer the Mount Kilimanjaro – or, more precisely, its 5898-metre-high Uhuru Peak. This will be the first Croatian expedition of this sort, confirming that the University of Rijeka is, in addition to all it offers its students, also open to other activities – which will affirm its position as an university worth studying at.

The 5th Croatian Congress of Slavists

The Committee of Croatian Slavists of the Croatian Philological Society and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Rijeka organise the 5th Croatian Congress of Slavists to be held from 7 to 11 September in Rijeka. For the first time in Rijeka, the congress will gather about 220 domestic and foreign participants.

Presented the programme for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Capuchins in Croatia

The programme for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Capuchins in Croatia, namely the foundation of the first independent Order of Capuchins in Rijeka in 1610, was presented at the Information Centre of the City of Rijeka. The City of Rijeka has joined the sponsorship of this rich programme that, in addition to religious and scientific events also includes cultural contents, while the celebration will be held in October.

In order to enable visitors access to the hidden wealth lying behind this building, the Croatian Conservation Institute has provided virtual strolls through the premises.

The power supply, infrastructure and tourism projects of Rijeka included in the Catalogue of Investment Project Initiatives
The City of Rijeka took part in the Croatian Investment Forum held within the ordinary annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where the power supply, infrastructure and tourism projects of Rijeka were presented to potential future investors. Further to the publication, the projects are also presented in the e-Catalogue of Investment Project Initiatives.

The IT Department of the City of Rijeka, in cooperation with the company “Krk sistemi" ltd., developed the Project of Free Wireless Internet Access for all the citizens that use portable computers, as well as all the tourists and visitors of this city. The free wireless Internet signal covers the downtown area, part of Trsat, the swimming-pool complex at Kantrida, the Centre Zamet and the cinema "Art-kino Croatia". |
