The 14th edition of the Children's Carnival Procession

For the fourteenth time in a row, the most playful and engaging manifestation of the Rijeka Carnival – Children's Carnival Procession was held with participation of preschool and school-aged children. Their number every year clearly shows what we may expect of it in the future. In this year's edition of the carnival procession 76 carnival groups took part with 5.208 children whose fanciful ideas chased away threatening rain clouds.

Reception for the Ukrainian Ambassador

The mayor of the City of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel and the deputy mayor Miroslav Matešić gave a reception in honour of the new Ukrainian Ambassador Boris Zaichuk, who was accompanied by his deputy Anatolij Černyšenk. The talks included the establishment of cooperation in the field of the economy, culture and education, as well as closer connections between Rijeka and the Mykolayiv region and the city of Mykolayiv.

Town Twinning – contribution to local community development

The final presentation of the project titled ''Promotion of Town Twinning between European and Croatian Local Units", financially supported by the European Union, organised by the Association of Municipalities, was held in Rijeka. The participants presented the results of research into twinning between Croatian municipalities and cities, as examples of good practice, including the example of the City of Rijeka.

Announcement of the 19th edition of the masked rally Pariz – Bakar and the Octane Ball

Since 1990 the members of the Auto Club "Rijeka" have been organising the masked rally as an accompanying manifestation of the Rijeka Carnival, and a parody of the worldwide known rally Paris-Dakar. The 19th edition of the masked rally Pariz - Bakar is to take place on Saturday, 6 February 2010.

Jazz Seminar

The City of Rijeka and the Academy of Music, Zagreb, Regional Department, Rijeka organise for the first time in Croatia a Jazz workshop intended for all participants coming from across Croatia and abroad, interested in the future study at the Jazz Department of the Academy of Music, Zagreb to be located in Rijeka as a full-fledged department of the Academy of Music, Zagreb.

Croatia Carnival Snowboard Session 2010

Within the Rijeka Carnival, the Croatia Carnival Snowboard Session 2010 was held last Saturday, for the first time on Korzo. The citizens of Rijeka and their guests once again had an opportunity to enjoy the skills of some twenty top snowboarders from about ten countries. This snow competition, for which on Korzo a particular polygon was constructed, is unique for its platform just 100 meters distant from the sea.

Rijeka and Skopje connected by charter flights

The promotional flight between Rijeka and Skopje will take place on Monday, 25 January, organised by the company GAT Executive from Rijeka, and will be the first among many flights scheduled two times a week all the year round between the Rijeka Airport and the Macedonian capital. The establishment of this airline is the first step of the regional air traffic connection aimed at developing the Krk Airport and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

The 27th edition of the Rijeka Carnival is approaching!

This year's 27th edition of the Rijeka Carnival will take place from 17 January to 17 February. The domination of fancy-dressed people will begin with the election of the Rijeka Carnival Queen (22 January), to continue with the Children's Carnival Procession (6 February) and the International Carnival Procession (14 February).

Opened the Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rijeka

On the occasion of the today's inauguration of the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Croatia, headquartered in Rijeka, with the consular authorities over the territory including the County of Istria, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Lika and Senj County, the mayor of the City of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel has met with the German Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, His Excellency, Bernd Fischer and the newly appointed Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Croatia Robert Ježić.

Celebrated the 15th anniversary of the cultural society "Slovak Matica Rijeka"

The cultural society "Slovak Matica Rijeka" celebrated its 15th anniversary of activities with a solemn programme organised in the premises of the Matica on Korzo. The Ambassador of Slovakia, His Excellency Roman Supek and Daniel Zemančík, on behalf of the central society "Slovak Matica" from Slovakia, Zdenka Čuhnil, parliamentary deputy and Miroslav Matešić, City of Rijeka vice mayor, were among the numerous guests who attended the celebration of the anniversary.

Comenius Project presented at "Ivan Zajc" primary school

The cinema "Art-kino Croatia" has been admitted to the Europa Cinemas network. It is a network forming part of the EU MEDIA programme intended for the development of European films and the film industry.

Free Wireless Internet Access in Rijeka

The IT Department of the City of Rijeka, in cooperation with the company “Krk sistemi" ltd., developed the Project of Free Wireless Internet Access for all the citizens that use portable computers, as well as all the tourists and visitors of this city. The free wireless Internet signal covers the downtown area, part of Trsat, the swimming-pool complex at Kantrida, and since October 2009 the Centre Zamet and the cinema "Art-kino Croatia" as well.
