Project goal

Further development of the Centre for Personal Growth and Development in elementary school Podmurvice, intended to support gifted children and pupils with above-average abilities.

Duration

Starting from 1 July 2020 – duration 16 months

Description

With this project, elementary school Podmurvice continues with the Centre for Personal Growth and Development as an upgrade of previous Erasmus + KA1 projects (Dare to Think, Wind at their Back).

The project focuses on work with gifted pupils and pupils with above average abilities. The emphasis of the project is on pupils who are inconspicuous, shy, quiet and withdrawn with the aim of increasing long-term motivation to learn and increasing the self-esteem of gifted pupils and pupils with above average abilities.

Project goals:

  1. Develop an activity programme for gifted pupils and pupils with above-average abilities for all teaching areas, school activities and support to teachers in devising and implementing the Curriculum,
  2. Introduce mentorship for pupils (work with an expert in a certain specialty) in natural sciences, STEM, arts and humanities (individually or in groups),
  3. Form peer and volunteer activities in order to achieve that pupils accept themselves and others and be focused on problems as challenges.

In order to improve work with gifted children, during the project, in cooperation with educational institutions from Turkey and Spain, teachers will attend 6 structured courses, job shadowing (a form of professional development when a teacher observes and monitors the work of a colleague from a European institution at his or her workplace ) and will learn through teaching in a partner institution.

Expected results

  1. Developing new learning and teaching methods for gifted pupils and pupils with above average abilities,
  2. Developing curriculum culture,
  3. Developing the European dimension of the school.

Teachers will improve teaching methods, apply new teaching methods, implement critical thinking methods in everyday work. Pupils will improve learning strategies, develop methods of critical, creative and divergent thinking. Through education for the citizen of Europe, we will develop tolerance and acceptance of diversity. The school and the Centre will become recognisable for the education of gifted pupils and for taking care of them. The Centre for Personal Growth and Development will be the promotor of the idea that the school be nominated a European Talent Point.
